Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range IH Hotel Roma Z3 is a well-priced option for couples looking to be away from the bustle of Rome's center,
but conveniently within walking distance to public transportation. Beyond a
futuristic interior design, the hotel provides a restaurant
and bar, four meeting spaces, and a free breakfast. Wi-Fi is also free throughout the hotel. Its 260
stylishly modern rooms, though small, each include a flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, minibar, and the option of a separate living room. But complaints have been
made concerning cleanliness, maintenance issues, and spotty Wi-Fi. Travelers who want to be close to the Vatican could try Relais Vatican View, while Condotti Palace offers a central location just two blocks from the Spanish Steps -- though rooms are pricier.

Scene

Affordable hotel with a futuristic somewhat '80s design that caters to couples and families

This well-priced hotel aims for a streamlined, futuristic look both inside and out. The gray building has large geometric red-brick shapes across the facade that draws together to a sharp point on one end. The effect is somewhat reminiscent of the 1980s, which isn't improved by the lack of landscaping. But things improve inside -- bold golden columns and a gold front desk; crisp white floor tiles; and low-lying metal-frame chairs in white and black leather still hint at the 80s, but with a bit more glamor. The open-plan restaurant, bar, and
breakfast room comes closest to achieving the space-age appearance, with its rounded walls and orb-like overhead lamps; done in mostly white, black, and dark brown, the room is jazzed up with a red accent wall and gold touches. This hotel is a popular stop for travelers in tour groups, so it’s
no surprise that most guests are couples and families that can be seen congregating in the
breakfast room.

Location

Far from major sights; walking distance to a train and metro station

IH Hotel Roma Z3 is far away from the bustle of Rome’s city center, but still accessible by car or
public transportation. The S.M. Del Soccorso metro station is a 25-minute walk
away, while the Togliatti train station is 15 minutes away on foot. Getting to the Colosseum by metro takes 45 minutes. Conveniently located
nearby (less than a five-minute walk) is the Centro Commerciale Auchan Collantina,
a small shopping center with several stores, a grocery store, and a gas station. Nearby dining options are within a five- to 15-minute walk. It takes about 35 minutes by car to reach Leonardo da Vinci International
Airport.

Rooms

Sleek and ultra-mod decor with flat-screen TVs and minibars; family-friendly rooms available

Guest rooms are ultra-modern with a dark gray, black, white, and gold color scheme. Think: white bedding
with dark-gray runners, gray curtains and carpet, light-wood-laminate panels above the
headboards, and gold closets. The furniture is similarly mod and maximizes space, since many of the rooms are quite small; for example, built-in minibars and door-less closets in Standard Rooms. Other standard features include flat-screen TVs, safes, and air-conditioning. Executive Rooms have separate desk areas, and
Suites have separate living rooms with white futons (which convert to sofa beds) and tables with two futuristic chairs -- these rooms are spacious enough for small families. But travelers should be aware that there have been complaints
concerning cleanliness, maintenance issues, and Wi-Fi connectivity in the
rooms. Bathrooms are slick with black tiles and large bowl sinks, and either stall showers or shower/tub combos; bidets, slippers, toiletries, and hairdryers are provided.

Features

Free breakfast, restaurant, meeting spaces, a gift shop, and free Wi-Fi

The best feature of IH Hotel Roma Z3 is the free breakfast buffet served daily in the breakfast room. Cold cuts, cheeses, eggs,
yogurt, cereals, and pastries are just some of the items served. Other on-site dining
options include Risto Idea, a restaurant that serves Italian and Roman dishes,
and a full-service bar. Four fully equipped meeting rooms that hold up to 315 people total (one holds 250
people) and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel are amenities that appeal to business travelers. The
hotel also has a gift shop that sells jewelry and apparel. There is free outdoor parking, as well as an underground parking garage that requires a fee.
