The Raganelli Hotel is popular with group tours, and given that it's a 10-minute walk to the Ergife Palace Congress Center, it also draws business travelers. The small lobby is bright and modern, with crimson tile columns running along the white limestone walls. Hardwood floors lead to a white and brown wraparound front desk with a glass top. Benches in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows provide guests a place to sit as they wait to check in. Black-leather armchairs offer more seating, and potted tropical plants add warmth. Black-and-white art photos add a touch of sophistication. The ground-floor breakfast room can get busy, especially when tour groups arrive en masse to dine before boarding their buses. The rooftop terrace is a natural gathering spot in the evening -- guests often take their drinks from lobby bar and then head up to the roof to take in the spectacular sunsets and great views. 

The hotel is located west of central Rome on a busy commercial street that includes residential complexes. A gas station is across the street and a clothing store is next door. Several restaurants, bars, and a pharmacy are within a one- to three- minute walk, and a bus stop is about two minutes away. The nearest subway station (Cornelia) is nine minutes by bus or about 18 minutes away on foot. Travel times from the hotel to the Termini train station in central Rome are 30 to 35 minutes via public transportation or car. Vatican City is a 20-minute drive or around 35 minutes by public transportation, and the Colosseum is approximately 40 minutes by public transportation (or a 30- to 40-minute drive). Ciampino Airport is about a 25-minute drive, and Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport is a 22-minute drive.

The 45 rooms at the Rananelli Hotel are modern and streamlined. They have white walls and floors in gray or tan carpeting, wood laminate, or oak hardwood. A dark wood veneer is used in the glass-top nightstands, desks, and decorative wall panels, but some of these show obvious signs of wear. Distinctive stainless-steel paneling adorn the walls behind the beds in some rooms adding a metallic glint. White bedding and gray textiles are offset by burgundy bed runners or red throw pillows, offering small spots of color. 

The beige-tile bathrooms have white ceramic vanities and either walk-in rainfall shower inserts or shower/tub combos with whirlpool jets and rainfall showerheads. All rooms include magnifying mirrors, flat-screen TVs, safes, heated towel racks, and free Wi-Fi. Rooms are quiet, and some rooms have small balconies, but views are often of surrounding buildings and streets. 

Room sizes vary widely, from the cramped Singles (97 square feet) in which the twin bed abuts three walls to the bi-level Junior and Family Suites (323 square feet) with separate living rooms. Economy Rooms range from 162 to 215 square feet, while Comfort (the next category up) range from 215  to 270 square feet, depending on whether they're double, triple, or quadruple bed arrangements. 

This modern hotel caters heavily to tour groups on short stays, and its amenities seem to reflect that. The free continental breakfast buffet is served in a ground-floor room and includes meats and eggs. Free coffee and tea are available in the lobby, and the lobby bar serves specialty coffees and alcoholic drinks throughout the day. The hotel also has a vending machine with various snacks, but no restaurant for lunch or dinner. The lovely rooftop terrace with its sweeping views is a standout feature. Concierge services include valet laundry and dry cleaning, and airport transfers can be arranged as well. Private on-site parking is free, and free newspapers are available in the lobby. A safe-deposit box is available at the front desk. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, but it has time limits before guests receive a surcharge for usage -- although many groups report receiving free unlimited Wi-Fi as a perk.
