The mid-range Hyatt Place San Antonio/Riverwalk takes design inspiration from a Texas ranch house with pitched rooftops incorporated into the six-floor building. A patio space at the rear of the property offers a peaceful setting to take in a quieter section of the San Antonio River. Faux leather armchairs offer seating in the lobby and there are dining tables near the Coffee to Cocktails Bar. In Hyatt tradition, the circular front desk is part check-in counter and part bar/cafe. The hotel attracts both business travelers and leisure tourists, including families with children and couples. In comparison to other River Walk hotels, these rooms are competitively priced and the free Wi-Fi, parking, and breakfast are added perks not always offered by area properties.

The hotel is situated right by a quieter section of the River Walk; the more popular area of the River Walk can be reached in five minutes on foot. Several riverfront attractions are within walking distance, including the Arneson River Theatre (five minutes), Briscoe Western Art Museum (seven minutes), San Fernando Cathedral (eight minutes), and the Alamo (14 minutes), as well as several Tex-Mex restaurants. Guests can also utilize the hotel’s free area shuttle, and boat cruises can be arranged. The Historic Market Square is about a five-minute drive, while SeaWorld San Antonio can be reached in 25 minutes. San Antonio International Airport is about a 15-minute drive, or 50 minutes via public transportation (a bus stops down the street from the hotel).

Guest rooms at this Hyatt are exactly what you'd expect from the brand: Decor is simple, modern, and reflects the typical chain-hotel aesthetic. Dark wooden trim provides a little decorative flair against white walls. Platform beds are backed by blond wood headboards. And nature prints provide the only shot of color in the space. Swiveling 42-inch flat-screen TVs with plug panels are placed right between the beds and the sitting areas, which are divided by privacy walls. Other amenities include writing desks and wet bars that have mini-fridges and coffeemakers. Select rooms also have balconies with views of the San Antonio River. Wi-Fi is free in all rooms, and guests have access to free remote printing. Blue wallpapered bathrooms are small and feel cramped with shower/tub combos or walk-in showers and external granite-topped sinks. ADA compliant rooms have roll-in showers. 

Hyatt Place San Antonio/Riverwalk covers all the basics of a mid-range hotel. The Kitchen Skillet serves breakfast, which includes fruit and hot items, and it's included in all room rates. The Gallery Menu offers 24/7 casual dining and take-away items like sandwiches and salads that are available in a deli case. The hotel doesn’t have a separate restaurant space, but the Coffee to Cocktails Bar shares a circular counter with the front desk. There are a few bar stools at the counter and more booth seating in the lobby, which can get crowded during the morning breakfast rush. 

The hotel also has a large outdoor pool, but the lack of landscaping makes the area feel sparse. A few lounge chairs line the surrounding sundeck, which offers views of the Tower of the Americas. The red carpeted gym is suitable for basic workouts with a couple of treadmills, cardio machines, and free weights. There are three meeting rooms available, plus breakfast and lunch catering can be requested. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.
