This quiet, budget hotel has a charming exterior, a half-brick, half-brown-stucco three-story building that resembles nice apartment buildings. There are some trees and open grassy lawns around the hotel. Once inside, this chain property is low on frills and ambience, but it's generally well-maintained. There are flat-screen TVs attached to the walls in the lobby and breakfast room, which are outfitted in generic earth-tone furnishings and a few decor touches such as a longhorn skull and photos of San Antonio landmarks. Most visitors to the hotel are families in town either to spend time at SeaWorld or Lackland Air Force Base. 

Microtel Inn & Suites is on a hill, just off Texas State Highway Loop 1604. It’s in a quiet area with nothing nearby except apartment buildings, however, proximity to the highway makes it easy to drive to attractions. SeaWorld San Antonio is only a 10-minute drive away. Families in town for graduations at Lackland Air Force Base are also 10 minutes away by car. Other activities include horseback riding at Westcreek Trail Rides, a seven-minute drive away, and getting dinner and a movie at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a 13-minute drive away. Downtown San Antonio and the River Walk are about 25 to 30 minutes away by car. San Antonio International Airport is a 32-minute drive away. Ample free parking is available on-site.

This budget hotel offers adjoining rooms for groups or families, plus other family-friendly features include rollaway beds and cribs. The 83 rooms have lackluster furnishings consisting of two-tone brown carpeting and bedspreads, brown drapes, and brown and beige walls. Though a bit dated and certainly bland, it's rather standard for a budget hotel. Generally rooms are kept clean, but there have been reports of some wear and tear and maintenance issues. Additionally, some have complained about the thin walls letting in noise from adjoining rooms. All rooms have a desk, flat-screen TV, coffee- and tea-making facilities, iron and ironing board, safe deposit box, and free Wi-Fi. Guests can request mini-fridges and microwaves, too. Bathrooms come with a shower/tub combo, hairdryer attached to the wall, and free toiletries.

There’s also an outdoor swimming pool with an adjacent whirlpool and loungers. A continental breakfast with a waffle (shaped like Texas) station is included in all rates, served alongside juice and coffee. It's not a big business center, but there are a computer and printer in the lobby, as well as a coin-operated laundry room and vending machines. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Only service animals are allowed. It's worth noting that the hotel advertises discounts for military families, considering the proximity to Lackland Air Force Base.
