Bottom Line

Perched on a cliff looking out over the Caldera in Fira, Santorini, the upscale Cosmopolitan Suites Hotel makes for a romantic getaway, attracting mostly honeymooners and couples. One of the more intimate Santorini luxury hotels, this property features only 10 rooms, all of which integrate beautifully into the surroundings, thanks to whitewashed walls paired with deep shades of brown and gray, evocative of the nearby volcano. Some units have private hot tubs. Features include a lovely infinity pool with ocean views, a restaurant with 24-hour room service, and a free daily breakfast that guests can opt to have in their rooms. Wine tastings and in-room massage services are also available, but there's no fitness center. Travelers looking for something with more amenities may want to consider El Greco nearby, which offers a fitness center and a spa.

Scene

Upscale boutique hotel built on a sloping cliff with beautiful views out over the Santorini Caldera

Cosmopolitan Suites Hotel is an intimate, boutique property that's part of the SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) of the World group of hotels. The property blends in beautifully with its surroundings -- think stark-white exteriors typical of Santorini and a terraced layout spread across a hillside that descends down toward the sea. The doorway is discreet, on a small side street, and leads down into a polished outdoor area with cushioned seating and views out over the caldera. There's also an outdoor restaurant right by the infinity pool with plenty of shaded seating areas. The clientele here are largely couples, many on their honeymoon, and the overall vibe is romantic and low-key. Overall, this hotel offers an intimate and sophisticated getaway, where views and service shine.

Location

Coastal location smack in the middle of Fira, a 15-minute drive from the airport

Cosmopolitan Suites Hotel is located right in Fira, the capital city (or town, really) of Santorini, right by the coast and within walking distance of plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars. It's about a 15-minute drive to Santorini Airport and the hotel can arrange transfers with advance notice. The main ferry port is also about a 15-minute drive away, with connections to other islands and to the mainland of Greece. The medieval village of Pyrgos is a 10-minute drive from the hotel, while the Minoan Bronze Age ruins of Akrotiri are about a 20-minute drive away, just north of Red Beach (named as such due to the rusty hue of its shores). Oia, known for its gorgeous sunsets, is a 25-minute drive from the hotel, in the opposite direction.

Rooms

Elegant rooms with gorgeous sea views and locally inspired decor, many with balconies and some with whirlpools

There are only 10 rooms at this property, spread across six categories. The smallest are Cosmo Doubles, which measure 24 square meters (258 square feet), while the largest is the 65-square-meter (700-square-foot) Cosmo Villa, which is spread over two floors and designed to look like a typical local house. Interiors are elegant and stark, taking cues from the local architecture and environment, featuring a a mix of white and off-white furniture paired with accents in multiple shades of brown and gray that mirrors the volcanos in the distance. Some categories have furnished terraces with fantastic views out over the sea. Standard amenities found across categories include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, bluetooth speakers, safes, minibars with large bottles of liquor, and Nespresso machines. Cosmo Suites have indoor whirlpool hot tubs, while Cosmo Honeymoon Suites feature outdoor whirlpools on decks overlooking the sea. All rooms are en-suite and have large bathrooms featuring walk-in showers, bathrobes, slippers, and toiletries.

Features

Lovely pool with sea views and adjacent bar and restaurant, 24-hour room service, and concierge services

For a small property, Cosmopolitan Hotel offers great amenities, with the highlight being a small but lovely infinity pool situated on a terrace overlooking the sea. There are a few padded lounge chairs and parasols for shade, but their number is limited. Dining takes place at the all-day poolside bar and restaurant, which offers light meals along with a full bar menu, including cocktails. Breakfast is included in room rates and guests can have the meal delivered their rooms. Breakfast spreads include a choice of hot and cold items such as omelets, yogurt, pastries, and coffee. Room service is available 24 hours a day.

There are also free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour front desk, and twice-daily maid service, and guests are provided with loaner cell phones to help make getting around the island easier. Local tours and transport and wine-tasting sessions can be arranged through the concierge, and while there's no spa, in-room massages are available. Laundry service is available on request and there's a small gift shop on the ground floor selling all sorts of souvenirs.
