Some room terraces feel exposed
There's little to not like at this quintessential, yet modern and upscale, Santorinian complex. The location of Ikies Traditional Houses is close to ideal -- perched on a tranquil cliff top with easily some the best views on the island -- and there are plenty of vantage points to enjoy it from. Rooms are spacious and very nicely finished, though some private terraces can feel a little public. Like most properties here, the pool is small, but perfectly formed. A very similar option can be found nearby at the Atrina Traditional Houses, so you might want to compare prices.
Scene
Intimate and cozy boutique in typical Santorinian surrounds
A narrow footpath flanked by gorgeous sea views and volcanic rock walls leads to a charming blue gate and the entrance to Ikies Traditional Houses. Steps wind down past potted shrubs, cacti, and flowers into a small homey reception area hollowed into the steep hillside on which the hotel is perched. The setting is typically Santorini: a series of freshly whitewashed terraces fringed with vegetation looking out over the beautiful Aegean Sea and island cliffs that snake along the shore. Guests tend towards honeymooning and anniversary couples that are keen to spend their stay in a quieter corner of the island soaking up the magnificent views.
Location
Beautiful hillside setting on edge of Oia town in northwest Santorini
The complex is located on the edge of Oia town, on the northwest tip of Santorini Island. It's about a 15-minute walk to the center of the small town, with its pretty white and blue domed houses and tavernas. Getting to Santorini involves a 45-minute flight from Athens, and then the local airport is about 12 miles away. Ferries also connect from surrounding island from the port of Athiniou also 12 miles away.
Rooms
Three tiers of room all with private terraces with sea views
Rooms are divided into studios, maisonettes, and suites all of which are varied in layout but share fresh yet homey style decor with traditional wooden furnishings. All provide small area for preparing food and terraces with sea views, and many feature spa tubs, though some terrace areas feel a little exposed. Beds are topped with comfortable natural fiber mattresses and mineral water and local wine are offered for free upon arrival. Bathrooms are modern and feature mosaic work, and include walk-in showers or tubs and high-end Apivita toiletries.
