Bottom Line

The luxurious Kapari Natural Resort is undoubtedly one of the more beautiful Cycladic-style properties in Imerovigli -- or even the island. Cream-colored rooms are sophisticated and minimalist, with built-in furniture, and many have big indoor hot tubs. An on-site restaurant also impresses with excellent food and wine, and 24-hour room service is a nice touch. The lack of a private terrace in some rooms might disappoint -- as might the tiny pool. For a similarly chic vibe with decent-size pool, check out Honeymoon Petra Villas nearby.

Scene

Attractive, chic, and upscale family-run Cycladic-style hotel

While there are dozens of surrounding hotels featuring zinc-white, Cycladic-style architecture, there are few that pull it off with as much panache as the Kapari Natural Resort. Over 40 years ago Rena and Takis Adamidis began restoring some of the few homes that had survived the 1956 earthquake. In 2010 their son Philip transformed the collection of buildings into this upscale property and it is still run by the Adamidis family. This effortlessly chic complex of restored three-century-old dwellings combines those distinctive traditional flowing lines with chic minimalism, while molded stairs and pathways link up a series of spacious terraces -- all of which feature the breathtaking panoramic vistas over the caldera. As at most similar properties, staying here means navigating lots of often step stairs. Children under 14 are not allowed.

Location

Set on cliff face in Imerovigli village just north of Fira

The hotel is shares a prime position with plenty of neighboring properties built into cliff face in the relatively peaceful village of Imerovigli. While its setting guarantees some particularly stunning sea views over the caldera, it can also be one of the windier places on the island. The village is located just north of the island's capital, Fira -- a bustling tourist hub and about a five-minute drive away or 25 minutes downhill on foot. The property is also around 20 minutes' drive from Santorini Airport, or nearer 30 minutes from the main port.

Rooms

Minimalist, elegant Cycladic-style rooms -- most with a sea-view terrace and indoor hot tub

The hotel offers 14 rooms in seven different categories, including the standard category (Vanilla), Premium, Spa Premium, two types of suites, and two special options -- Kapari Up & High and Private Residence. All rooms are beautifully finished with a minimalist take on traditional Cycladic decor, featuring with elegant curves, built-in furniture, and contemporary touches. Amenities are also high-end: There are large flat-screen TVs and integrated media and environment systems as well as pillow menus and fluffy robes. Most rooms have two-person whirlpool tubs inside though these can make the rooms a little too hot and humid; the Vanilla Rooms have easy access to a shared hot tub outdoors. All but a few rooms open to private terraces with sea views, though some open directly onto the pool and feel less private. Kapari Up & High features a super-secluded concealed terrace with large hot tub while the Private Residence is a collection of units sleeping up to 15 guests. Many rooms are split over two levels.

Features

Excellent restaurant and 24-hour room service -- though tiny pool

The breakfast features bread and pastries baked on-site, as well as fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt, and can be taken in the hotel's restaurant or on the terrace overlooking the sea (but not in-room). The restaurant is also open for lunch and romantic dinners, and offers excellent dining with a good collection of local wines. The small bar in the restaurant is open until late while room service is available around the clock. There’s a disappointingly small heated pool on the lower deck and various terraces lined with loungers, one that has a hot tub. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout, though as at many hotels on the island it can be spotty.
