Bottom Line

The three-pearl Berjaya Praslin Resort is average on most levels, except for the stunning location on the Cote D’Or Beach. The 79 rooms are contemporary and generic in design but do well in terms of amenities like flat-screen TVs, kettles, mini-fridges, and patios. While the outdoor pool and grounds are lovely, interiors are starting to look dated and the food, including the free American breakfast, in the restaurants is so-so. Half-board and full-board rates are available. There’s no gym or spa and Wi-Fi costs extra. Villas de Mer is a smaller property, but a nice alternative with free Wi-Fi in the lobby and a restaurant with good reviews.

Scene

Hotel with lovely green grounds and contemporary interiors that are slightly dated

There's nothing too spectacular about the interiors of Berjaya Praslin Resort. While the white and dark salmon floors and the antique chandelier of the lobby could be sophisticated, the mauve-colored armchairs and couches look tired. The same could be said of the restaurants. The open-air style is lovely, but the wooden tables and chairs are worn and the white and pink tablecloths -- though aiming for elegant -- feel a bit old-fashioned. Luckily, the hotel grounds have a lot more pizzazz, emphasizing the natural beauty of the island. Expansive green lawns and tall trees are permeated by pathways and charming water fountains. Most guests are couples on vacation.

Location

Located on Cote D'Or Beach -- few restaurants and attractions in the immediate area

Berjaya Praslin Resort holds a sliver of prime property on Cote D’Or Beach on the Praslin island of Seychelles. Travelers will find that Praslin is a beach destination with little to do beyond beach, ocean, and jungle excursions. Praslin National Park is a 12-minute drive away, while the Praslin Museum takes 10 minutes to reach on foot. There are a handful of restaurants within a 10-minute walk from the hotel, but mostly the surrounding area is filled with hotels and private residences. It’s a 25-minute drive to the Praslin Island Airport. Expect a 15-minute drive to the Praslin Jetty Terminal for those who take the one-hour boat ride from Mahe, Seychelles.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and kettles

The hotel’s rooms are spacious enough and feature a contemporary decor. Some may find them simple and unexciting (and slightly dated). Beyond wooden furniture and white beds, there’s no artistic decorative elements. However, they’re all pleasant overall, and come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and kettles, though no Wi-Fi. Furnished patios looking out on the luscious grounds are a nice feature. Bathrooms are equipped with toiletries, hairdryers, and showers. While the rooms looked fairly clean on our visit, guests have complained about poor housekeeping service.

Features

Decent amenities like an outdoor pool, free breakfast, and two restaurants -- though Wi-Fi isn't free

Because the focus at this resort is the beach, the additional features are adequate but not overly impressive. There’s an outdoor swimming pool with a children’s area that’s serviced by a pool bar for drinks and snacks. Though there’s no gym or spa, guests can stay active with two tennis courts and a pool table. A free hot American breakfast is offered daily. Guests can enjoy lunch at the on-site beachfront pizzeria or a themed buffet in the Fregate Restaurant, though they’ve received varying reports on food quality. Wi-Fi is available, but costs a fee and can only be accessed in the lobby or pool area.
