Scene

A small boutique with modern rooms and on-site restaurant serving local eats, although there's not much to do activity-wise

Locals frequent the hotel for its superb food and to sip morning espressos, and guests will get a view of small-town life in northern Sicily. Outside, the decor is neutral (beige tiles, plants in terracotta pots, and white patio furniture), while the indoor common areas may call to mind the style found in Florida beach condos -- slightly hodepodge light brown wooden furniture, glass tabletops covered in seashells, and straw-like collections of dried plants found in the lobby, atrium, and hallways. It's a departure from the more modern and stylish atmosphere found in the rooms. The common area walls are muted orange, off-white and cornflower blue, while accents are silver or distressed metal. Off the atrium there is an on-site restaurant, café and bar.

Location

Perfect for avoiding crowds and somewhat central to many Trapani sites

Directly adjacent to the SP16 highway, the Al Ritrovo is surrounded by green hills, slightly rundown buildings, and thick spots of green foliage. While there is not much to do in the actual village of Castelluzzo, the hotel’s location is an 11-minute drive north to the beach town of San Vito Lo Capo. Within a 45-minute drive are other Trapani points of interest, such as the historic commune of Erice, the glittering Riserva Naturale Saline di Trapani e Paceco, and the idyllic Zingaro Nature Reserve.

Rooms

The clean, simple and modern rooms are the draw here.

The modern decor in the 13 rooms betrays hints of 1960s inspiration; expect retro chaise lounges (that double as sofa beds), geometric patterns, and creative angles in the linen presentation. Orange-y reds, muted charcoals, and various shades of wood meet stark white walls, spotless sandy-colored large-tile floors, and simple Danish modern light fixtures. This is IKEA-style furniture at its best. Comparatively, rooms at the nearby Hotel Oasi and B&B Aurora Castelluzzo appear rustic and outdated.

Some rooms have views of the not-so-distant rocky and green landscape, while others overlook plain neighboring buildings and spotty gardens. Towels seem more decorative than functional and mini-fridges come sparsely stocked.

Features

Al fresco dining and a roof deck with hot tub

On sunny days, guests can take full advantage of Al Ritrovo’s features, namely the al fresco dining, rooftop hot tub, and several outdoor terraces. Those who encounter poor weather will be confined to the tiny bar, the elegant-yet-casual indoor dining room. Praised by locals and tourists for its superb local cuisine, the on-site restaurant is worth a nosh, while the café case displays fresh Sicilian pastries. For business travelers, the meeting room comfortably fits six to eight guests and free Wi-Fi is available in rooms and public areas. Laundry facilities are also available.
