Artemisia is housed in a small converted farmhouse in the rural outskirts of the UNESCO World Heritage town of Ragusa. More affordable than places closer to town, the upper-middle-range property has a beautiful, clean pool and immaculate, comfortable, spacious rooms with personal touches such as fresh fruit and flowers. An apartment-style room has a kitchen and two floors with lots of space. Fresh, free breakfast and coffee and tea are provided daily, but the nearest restaurant is a five-minute drive away.
Scene
Rural and romantic, with old stone all around
This farmhouse is set in the countryside, surrounded by the landscape of the Val di Noto. It has a refreshing swimming pool and barbecue area and is tranquil, clean, and comfortable. Artemisia Resort is surrounded by a wall comprised of the same large, dry stones used in the hotel's construction. The dining setup is very much DIY, with table settings, utensils, seasonings, and a barbecue provided. The spa and pool have a luxurious, elegant feel but the spotlessly clean rooms and garden makes the Artemisia feel more like a comfortable, large countryside bed and breakfast than a resort. Kiddos are welcome, but the property is more popular with couples than families.
Location
In the countryside with easy car access to town
The Artemisia is situated in a quiet, residential area of Ragusa near the southeastern coast of Sicily. It’s a 10-minute drive to the nearby city of Ragusa Ibla, Donnafugata Castle, and Marina di Ragusa, and 20 minutes to the Chiaramonte museums. If you’re up for a trek, you can reach the Trabacche Cave within an hour on foot. The drive to Comiso Airport takes less than a half hour and Cantania Fontanarossa Airport takes around an hour and a half. The closest restaurant is in Monna Lisa, a five-minute drive away. On-site parking is free.
Rooms
Comfortable, spacious rooms with exposed stone walls
There are only 13 rooms at Artemisia, each with its own character and a slew of lovely touches that include locally made olive oil soap, sachets of lavender, and fresh flowers. Rooms are spacious and have at least one wall made of exposed dry stone. Each room has a small seating area with table and chairs as well as a desk, a mini-fridge, a kettle with coffee and tea, a bowl of fresh fruit, and a flat-screen TV. Families and groups may want to consider the two-story apartment, which has a kitchen, a dining table, and a private patio.
Features
A pool, a playground, and fresh Sicilian breakfast
The large outdoor pool is kept immaculately clean and free of leaves and insects, and while there isn't a gym, there is a pair of exercise bikes as well as a spa area for massages and treatments. The garden has a grassy playground for children and bikes and classic cars are available for rent. Wi-Fi is free, but the signal is a bit weak. There's no restaurant, but the hotel offers free breakfasts of Sicilian cakes and ricotta as well as barbecuing facilities.
