Steung Siemreap Hotel

Siem Reap, Cambodia

It's all about location at the Steung Siemreap Hotel: Pub Street and the Old Market are just down the block, as is the Siem Reap River. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, a small fitness center, and a restaurant that features a free breakfast buffet, and also serves lunch, dinner, and drinks. The 76 simple guest rooms are the definition of traditional, with polished wooden floors and classic furniture, plus modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi.

Forest King Hotel

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Golden Mango Inn is a mid-range, 32-room guesthouse in a quiet spot outside of central Siem Reap. The hotel offers a free tuk-tuk service to Pub Street and the Old Market area, although guests must find their own transportation home. Rooms are bright and basic, with colorful dashes of local art; Deluxe Rooms have far more style. Breakfast (with Khmer and Western dishes) is free for all guests, as is Wi-Fi and the use of bicycles -- a great perk for touring the temples. Other features include a nice courtyard pool and a small open-air restaurant.

MotherHome Inn

Siem Reap, Cambodia

One of several MotherHome properties spread across Siem Reap, this simple value hotel is aimed at the budget crowd, but it's certainly above typical backpacker standards, with clean rooms, a sparkling pool, and and a restaurant and bar. Its 39 rooms come with minibars and large flat-screen TVs, and rates include Wi-Fi and breakfast. Massages are also available in the hotel's treatment room. Though there are several restaurants in the immediate area, walks to the action around Pub Street and downtown will take 15 to 20 minutes.

The Moon Boutique Hotel

Siem Reap, Cambodia

The Moon Boutique Hotel is a quaint, budget option that's a five-minute drive outside of downtown Siem Reap. There are only 17 simple rooms here, and all feature small patios plus modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. The hotel and its open-air restaurant (where free breakfast is served daily)  is arranged around a garden swimming pool. Free tuk-tuk services into town are available, and guests are given mobile phones to call whenever they need a pick-up.

MotherHome Guesthouse

Siem Reap, Cambodia

MotherHome Guesthouse is one of three properties owned by MotherHome, and it is the most basic of the trio. Aimed at budget travelers, there are 26 basic rooms here that are simply decorated and include mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs. Breakfast is free, as is Wi-Fi. While the hotel is a 15-minute walk to Pub Street, there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby on the east side of the Siem Reap River. Unlike the other MotherHome hotels, there is no pool, just a small restaurant and a massage room.

Bou Savy Guest House

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Located down a small dirt road, Bou Savy Guesthouse feels like a simple country home, yet it's just a 15-minute walk from wild Pub Street. There are 30 rooms here, with either fans or air-conditioning, and while decor is simple, they have contemporary Khmer touches, and are some of the best value digs in Siem Reap, especially when you add in the small swimming pool. Freebies include breakfast, Wi-Fi, and airport pickup, making this an even smarter choice for those in town to see the Angkor Wat sights.

Golden Butterfly Villa

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Golden Butterfly Villa is a small, budget guesthouse that's a five-minute walk from wild Pub Street in central Siem Reap. It's convenient for dining and nightlife, yet on a quiet lane, so crowds and noise seem far away. The 25 colorful rooms have traditional Khmer accents and, while not fancy, all include flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi -- some even have balconies or minibars. There's a small restaurant and bar in the lobby and other perks include a free half-hour massage in the small upstairs spa, plus free airport pickup. Unfortunately, breakfast is not included.

The Siem Reap Hostel

Siem Reap, Cambodia

The Siem Reap Hostel is a cheerful spot located just east of the river in central Siem Reap -- the Old Market and Pub Street are just over five minutes away on foot. Aimed at backpackers and budget travelers, there are 12 dorm rooms with bunk beds and lockers (some with en-suite bathrooms) plus eight Private Rooms. Al are spartan, but clean, and have air-conditioning. There's a swimming pool plus an inexpensive restaurant and bar, and even a small cinema screening films daily. Tours and transport can be arranged through the hostel and yoga classes are offered daily (for a fee). Overall, it's a great value.

Mingalar Inn

The Mingalar Inn -- formerly the Mandalay Inn -- is a 36-room budget hotel that's a five-minute walk from Siem Reap's wild Pub Street. Rooms are basic and clean, and feature mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is housed in an attractive building with teak interiors, and there's a simple restaurant serving Khmer, Western, and Burmese cuisine. The on-site travel agency is a handy resource, and while there is a fitness area on the roof, the equipment is very old. Mingalar Inn's Bargain-basement rates are hard to beat for its location.

Tanei Boutique Villa

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Perhaps a name change would be in order here -- this two-pearl "boutique villa" is actually a guesthouse aimed at the budget market, located only a seven-minute walk from downtown Siem Reap and Pub Street. There are 32 rooms spread between two buildings -- each includes modern Khmer touches like local textiles, though at core, the rooms area basic. Standard in-room features include air-conditioning, mini-bars, TVs, electric hot water kettles (with free tea and coffee downstairs). Wi-Fi and breakfast are free. There's also a small swimming pool, a garden, and a restaurant.
