InterContinental Singapore occupies a large multi-story building --  the main building was renovated in 2016, and a heritage wing saw an update in 2011. The Peranakan (local Chinese) heritage theme is evident throughout the hotel, evoking an Old World ambience. The hotel's facade incorporates a row of shop houses that date from the 1920s, which typify the heritage of the area. The elegant lobby lounge impresses with its high ceilings, chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows, patterned carpets, brown and turquoise upholstered armchairs arranged in cozy seating areas, and ornate screens that divide up the space. Square-and-diamond patterned tile floors add to the sense of elegance. The Concierge Lounge, right off the lobby, is decorated in the style of a Peranakan living room, with traditional furniture pieces, artwork, and ceramics prominently displayed on shelves. With its extensive meeting and event spaces, the hotel draws many business travelers, but couples and families find their way here too.

InterContinental Singapore is in a convenient location in central Singapore, a five-minute walk to Bugis subway station. From here, most tourist attractions, shopping areas, and the financial district can be reached easily. The hotel is linked to Bugis Junction Mall, a large shopping area. The InterContinental Singapore's Peranakan-accented decor continues in its 406 bright and spacious guest rooms and suites. Decorative panels hang behind the beds, with the same pattern repeating itself in the bed runners. Ornately carved wooden panels cleverly cover air vents, and pieces of traditional Peranakan furniture complement the look. Room decor is elegant but not overdone, with soft earthy tones of white, beige, and gray making up the color palette. 

All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, well-stocked minibars, ironing facilities, safes, hairdryers, bathrobes, slippers, and electric kettles. Nice extras include fruit baskets, iPod docks, Nespresso machines, a wide selection of teas, and lovely glassware, including long-stemmed wineglasses. Bathrooms are large with black marble surrounding the sinks, beige-marble tiling on the walls and floors, and separate bathtubs and showers with rainfall showerheads, magnifying mirrors, and toiletries.

Suites are on the 16th floor, and include separate living areas, and dining tables. Club Rooms and Suites include access to the Club InterContinental Lounge, with such extras as breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails included in the higher rates.

As a luxury hotel, the InterContinental Singapore checks off all the expected boxes. Guests staying in Club Rooms and Suites gain entry to Club InterContinental and several extras at no extra charge, such as a buffet breakfast (with a generous spread of Western and Asian dishes), afternoon tea, and evening cocktails, along with free coffee, tea, and mineral water, limited ironing at no extra charge, and the use of a private boardroom for an hour. 

The three restaurants serve a variety of cuisines for lunch and dinner: Chikuyotei has a Japanese menu, Man Fu Yuan's focus is on Cantonese fare, while  Ash & Elm turns to Europe for inspiration. The Lobby Lounge cafe is open throughout the day, serving drinks and light meals, and often features live piano music. The Victoria Bar is open in the evenings and has the ambience of an English pub.

The outdoor pool has a large hot tub, with views of the city skyline, and there's a pleasant rooftop garden. The spacious and bright carpeted fitness center is open 24 hours a day, and includes a wide range of cardio equipment and weights. A small room with a wooden floor is dedicated to yoga, and mats are provided.

Meeting facilities are extensive, with 11 meeting rooms covering 10,946 square feet of space, including a ballroom and exhibition areas. On-site parking, including valet parking, comes with a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
