Numerous amenities contribute to its iconic feel, including a museum, a shopping arcade with high-end shops such as Louis Vuitton, antique-filled common areas, and beautiful gardens. The hotel also features fifteen restaurants and bars, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, and a luxurious spa. All rooms are spacious suites with classic decor, including oriental rugs and mahogany furniture -- though the tube TVs in some rooms could use an update. This hotel is a solid luxury choice for business and leisure travelers, and anyone who appreciates history and old-fashioned charm.

Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, most with great South China Sea views. Many rooms have balconies and all have spacious bathrooms. A soft color palette, hardwood floors, and warm lighting all make rooms even more appealing. This hotel also has a butler assigned to each guest on arrival, a fleet of Mercedes and Rolls-Royce Phantoms, and an excellent spa. The location, away from mainland Singapore, is quiet and relaxed. The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Singapore, Singapore

Once home to the General Post Office, the Fullerton is one of Singapore’s grand dames. It has the extensive amenities you'd expect at a 5-pearl hotel, including four stately dining venues, a bar, a well-equipped fitness center (though machines lack individual TVs), a spa, and a pretty infinity pool with views of the Marina Bay and the skyline. There's even an art gallery and a room with a permanent exhibit of stamps, maps and old photographs. But it’s starting to show its age, and rooms, though luxurious, lack wow factor; they have neutral color palettes and hard mattresses. Its fairly central location and understated elegance make it a fine luxury pick, but it’s worth checking prices at its more impressive sister property, the Fullerton Bay Hotel.

7

Across all categories, rooms are upscale, with big flat-screen TVs and marble bathrooms. All wings share the hotel's amenities, including six restaurants, a small spa, outdoor pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. While the hotel does offer free Wi-Fi, the location isn't within walking distance of major attractions.

This 393-room Marriott is an upscale business hotel with top-notch amenities: A fitness center, a spa, five dining options, and a gorgeous pool. The location on Orchard Road, an iconic street lined by shops, is another upside. Rooms are modern and high-design: Dark wood accents and shades of blue, grey, and gold in the carpeting and furniture give them a sophisticated look. Tech features include flat-screen TVs inset in the walls, as well as iPod docks, but there's a fee for Wi-Fi. This hotel is a solid, luxurious option for travelers of all types -- families, couples, business travelers -- but the inland location means there are no water views.

10
