The hotel is less than a 15-minute walk to Piazza Tasso, considered the center of the old section of Sorrento and replete with restaurants, shops, and pleasant places to stroll. The train station is a 20-minute walk from the property; the Naples airport is an hour away by car. Grand Hotel Capodimonte is perched on a hill and set on a medium-size road that does get some traffic -- guests have reported the occasional noise disturbance, though not in excess.

The guest rooms are airy and light-colored, with accents such as cheery tiles and sconce lighting that reflect the hotel's classic Italian design aesthetic. Various rooms have balconies that offer garden or ocean vistas. Be sure to check which type you are getting before booking, as some guests are unsatisfied with the partial sea views. All have AC, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and Wi-Fi. Most have shower/tub combos, marble sinks, and light inlaid wood furniture. The bedding here is slightly dated, and some have noted that pillows are on the hard side.

The fantastic views of Sorrento and the Bay of Naples can be enjoyed from multiple vantage points on the property, including from the two restaurants and two bars. Hot and cold breakfast buffets are included in the room price. Some guests have noted that the food is not as good as what can be had in town for the same price. A network of outdoor cascading pools built into the cliffside is a definite highlight, particularly given the stunning views they offer.
