There's a good reason Maison La Minervetta has been featured in travel and style magazines like ELLE Decor and Conde Nast Traveller. The property was built in the 1950s by a Danish and Italian couple whose granddaughter now operates it. She studied design in Florence, which is evident through the beautifully curated art, collections of curios, and original furnishings throughout the rooms and public spaces. A blue and white color palette dominate the lobby, which accentuates the postcard worthy views of the Mediterranean Sea through large arched windows. A blue and white tiled fireplace is a pretty touch. The hotel has a breezy, romantic atmosphere throughout.

Some say that Sorrento was real life inspiration for the home of Homer's fictional sirens, which may or may not be true. But it's easy to see how the natural beauty of the blue sea against jagged rock cliffs could inspire an epic poem. Maison La Minervetta was built on a ridge overlooking the sea (with incredibly steep steps leading from the hotel to the beach, which could be an issue for less mobile guests) in the 1950s. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk to the city center and just 10-minutes from The Dali Universe museum. A small parking lot next to the hotel provides free parking.

There are 12 rooms inside Maison La Minervetta and every single one of them has stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. Book the corner room with two walls of windows for spectacular views of both the sunset and sunrise. Though room decor varies, most rooms have attractive maritime style, and incorporate fun, bold patterns such as stripes and polka dots. The Deluxe Room, for example, has nautical decor in shades of blue, red, and white, and accent walls of red and white stripes. Its bathroom has a deep soaking tub with a rainfall showerhead. The Superior Room has a black and white color palette -- plus a private furnished balcony built directly into the cliff. Rooms include minibars, electronic safes, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels.

Maison La Minervetta doesn't charge extra for Wi-Fi and parking. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and includes made to order eggs and pancakes. There's a tiny parking lot for cars next to the hotel entrance. The beach is accessible via steep stairs built into the cliff. The outdoor public spaces are exceptional, with cozy spots for lounging on the landscaped deck or enjoying the sun next to a small pool. Some guests have called it a swimming pool, but that may be generous.
