“Welcome to Paradice,” greets guests from the sign of the two-story Paradice Motel, a quaint motel with a brown wood and brick façade. Surrounded by pine trees and decorated with hanging baskets filled with colorful flowers, the motel has a certain rustic charm. A brown chair in the lobby with pictures of bears on it and a small moose statue holding business cards add kitschy wilderness appeal. There’s a small jelly bean-shaped outdoor pool surrounded by concrete and a few pieces of patio furniture. The owners go out of their way to ensure guests leave happy, including touches like chocolates on the pillow and giving departing guests goody bags containing bottles of water, candy, and moisturizer.

Paradice Motel is on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe in an area filled with hotels. It’s within a 10-minute walk to Harrah’s and a shorter walk to the Heavenly Gondola. There are plenty of casual and finer dining restaurants nearby. Both Edgewood Tahoe and Bijou golf courses can be reached in less than a 10-minute drive, and the beach is a short walk away.

Rooms have homey decor, with bookshelves with books, knick knacks, green carpeting, and (in the room we saw, at least) dark brown accent walls. Modern amenities include flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. Chalkboards greet guests with personalized welcome messages. Some rooms have mini-fridges and microwaves, and all rooms have free Wi-Fi.

Guests love the helpful staff at the Paradice Motel, and there’s also a concierge service on hand to arrange excursions. The motel has a small outdoor pool with a few chairs and a table. In the mornings, coffee and breakfast is served in the lobby, and some room packages come with private beach passes.
