The Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre complex, which includes Gothia Towers, is one of Europe's largest integrated accommodation-and-convention facilities; moreover, it happens to sit opposite Scandinavia's largest amusement park. So this is a hopping spot, and the hotel’s slick main lobby -- buzzing with both business and leisure travelers -- is the heart of the action. An eclectic mix of seating styles, lots of contemporary lighting, plus funky art and accents lend the sprawling space some personality; because of the proportions, though, it still tends to feel like a well-designed airport departure lounge. On the upside, Gothia Towers’ sheer size translates into a slew of onsite features and an energetic ambiance. 

This hotel is a practical choice for business travelers because it's part of the convention center complex, but its location within the so-called Evenemangsstråket (or events district) makes it equally attractive to tourists -- particularly younger ones who appreciate being within easy walking distance of popular attractions like Liseberg Amusement Park, the Universeum, Scandinavium Arena and the engaging Museum of World Culture. For visitors wishing to go farther afield, Korsvägen, a public transit hub, is only four minutes away on foot. From there you can reach Gothenburg Central Station in eight minutes or Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport in 25. Guests who would rather travel by car can grab a cab at the hotel entrance or bring their own vehicle, which can be parked on site for a fee.

From the smallest room to the largest suite -- covering 269 to 755 square feet respectively -- all of the modern, air-conditioned accommodations here feature 40-inch LCD TVs with cable channels, laptop safes, minibars, coffee/tea-making equipment, and irons/ironing boards. All but the lowest two categories also offer extras like bathrobes, slippers, and daily newspapers. The views, however, differ (they improve the higher you go). Ditto for the decor: some rooms have blond-wood built-in furniture with inlaid accents that give them an updated Art Deco look, while others have more of a tweedy, "Mad Men" tone. If you’re traveling as a family, note that some Standard and Sky category rooms come with sofa beds; Junior Suites add a living room, and Senior suites also have a dining area plus an upgraded bathroom with a walk-in shower and whirlpool tub. But most bathrooms are bland gray-and-white tiled spaces with showers or tubs, magnifying mirrors, and individual toiletries 

Conferences are big business at Gothia Towers: after all, the hotel’s own meeting spaces can accommodate up to 8,800 people; it has a dedicated team of planners, too, along with assorted technicians and in-house caterers. Two small offices, equipped with computers and printers, are available as well. When unwinding is required, guests 16 and over can use the Life Fitness Signature equipment in Upper House’s gym for free; the sister hotel’s decadent spa area -- featuring swimming pools, a sauna, a Turkish-style hammam and a selection of organic treatments -- is also free for those staying in Senior Suites and can be accessed at a discounted price by other guests. Children, meanwhile, are welcome to kick back in the pint-sized Nintendo playroom.

Gothia Towers’ varied restaurant options include Upper House Dining (a gourmet eatery with panoramic views that earned its first Michelin star in 2016), Heaven 23 (a contemporary spot serving a seasonal menu), Incontro (a relaxed Italian alternative), and West Coast (a bistro specializing in local fare). A free buffet breakfast is offered daily and room service is always available; the aptly-named Twentyfourseven cafe operates around the clock as well. Other features include a 24-hour front desk with multilingual staff; concierge service; dry cleaning/laundry service; and free Wi-Fi throughout.
