Bottom Line

Mendeli Street Hotel has been around since the 1960s, but thanks to renovations, this design-focused upper-middle-range boutique looks sharp and modern. Expect local art and plants on the walls, and bright spaces. The 66 guest rooms follow suit with chic and luxe bathrooms, large flat-screen TVs, and an obvious attention to design -- but some are noticeably small. Some rooms have open plan bathrooms, separate living rooms, or large walk-in rainfall showers. The most popular feature (aside from convenient location five minutes from Frishman Beach) is the celebrated lobby restaurant, Mashya, with an excellent free breakfast buffet. Other features include a fitness center, spa treatment room, and a 14-person meeting room. For a stylish spot with parking and slightly larger rooms, check out The Maxim Hotel, though you'll lose the great restaurant.

Mendeli Street Hotel

Scene

Design-focused boutique popular with modern style

Mendeli Street Hotel is a family-run boutique with lots of style. It opened in the 1960s, and the hotel has been renovated to reflect current design trends. It has a fresh, stylish look, from the gorgeous patterned ceilings and living plant wall in the lobby and bar to the local contemporary art, trendy furniture, and texturized panels. Expect natural oak, clean lines, cutouts, and pops of color throughout. Most spaces are open, giving the public areas a breezy feel. Most guests are international and domestic couples on vacation, though families and business travelers occasionally stay here too.

Rooms

Design-focused rooms with trendy accents and some soaking tubs

Mendeli's 66 rooms are contemporary with a focus on style. Standard Rooms are small (about 160-square-feet), and may be a squeeze for two people with luggage. The bedroom area has a bed with a decorative paneled headboard, flat-screen TV mounted to the wall, wide full-length mirror, and small desk nook. Bathrooms feel more spacious and have a luxe vibe thanks to glass-topped wood vanities, trendy bowl sinks, 417 Dead Sea toiletries, and a soaking tub/shower combo with rainfall showerhead and wraparound shower curtain. Superior Rooms and Lofts are noticeably larger with space for a dedicated desk area, a sitting chair, and Nespresso machine. These rooms also have open-plan bathrooms with a floating island vanity in the entryway and a large walk-in shower. Deluxe Rooms add a little more space, plus basic daybed benches. Some of these rooms have separate soaking tubs. Suites feature a separate living room and bedroom area, and can connect to another room for even more space. All rooms come with feather bedding, hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and free bottled water on arrival. The refrigerated minibar is stocked with canned drinks.
