Popular with leisure travelers, Hotel Monterey Ginza occupies a high-rise building located on a corner in Tokyo's Ginza district. The hotel aims for a Parisian style, which begins with its exterior. The beige brick facade has a certain European look to it, thanks to its bay windows and wrought-iron window railings. High ceilings and wood-paneled walls in the lobby continue the theme. There's also an elegant marble circular staircase featuring wrought-iron railings, while sculptures and oil paintings add an artistic touch to the decor. Retro-style elevators, with old-fashioned number boards above the doors, carry guests to upper floors. While the lobby decor is pleasant overall, a closer look reveals dated furniture, and scratched and worn woodwork on the counters and furniture, suggesting a refurbishment may be overdue.

Hotel Monterey Ginza is located in a lively shopping area with many high-end boutiques and shopping centers. There are also several restaurants, noodle bars, and convenience stores located in the immediate vicinity. Ginza metro station is a few minutes' walk away, as is Yurakucho train station, making most of Tokyo's attractions easy to access from here.

Guest rooms at the Monterey Ginza maintain the hotel's European theme, though they're not as elegant as public spaces. Neutral tones of white and chocolate brown are accented with touches of bamboo. Floors are covered in dark-brown carpeting or parquet in some rooms, and walls are painted a crisp white. Monogrammed bed runners match the dark furniture. Decorative bamboo panels hang over the beds, and the doors of the wardrobes and cupboards hiding the mini-fridge are also covered in bamboo. Slim desk lamps add an elegant touch. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, air purifiers, and electric kettles.

Typical for Tokyo, many of the guest rooms are on the small side, with Single Rooms covering only 172 square feet of floor space. The largest rooms are the Family Rooms at 430 square feet, and sleep up to four guests on two double beds. 

In contrast to the bedrooms, bathrooms are spacious by Japanese standards and fitted with shower/tub combos with large showerheads. Bathrobes, slippers, hairdryers, and toiletries are provided. 

Apart from the French-style on-site restaurant, Escale, Hotel Monterey Ginza has few extra features on offer. A buffet-style breakfast is served here with a choice of Western or Japanese-style dishes, but it's not included in room rates and is on the expensive side. The hotel also offers facilities for wedding parties, including an on-site chapel and a large ballroom decorated in an elegant classical style that seats up to 150 people. There are two smaller rooms available as well for meetings and special events. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and a computer with internet access is available in the reception area (for a fee). Laptops can also be rented from the front desk. Laundry and dry cleaning services are also on offer, and on-site parking is available for an extra fee -- advance reservation is necessary.
