Completed in 2014, the Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills is one of Tokyo's newest luxury hotels. It was built in the top floors (47 through 51) of the Toranomon Hills skyscraper, and has enormous windows overlooking Tokyo. Cleverly placed telescopes and a sophisticated rooftop bar are excellent ways to take in the sights. Like all Andaz properties, this hotel has an open lobby concept and hosts take the place of traditional front desk agents and concierge staff. Luxurious guest rooms have free minibars, large soaking tubs, and plenty of closet space. The skyscraper is a neighborhood within itself, with restaurants, shops, and offices. Prices are high, but comparable with other five-pearl properties in expensive Tokyo. 

The Conrad Tokyo is a 289-room hotel on the 28th to 37th floors of a luxury skyscraper in Tokyo's business-friendly Shiodome neighborhood. Contemporary rooms with peekaboo bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Tokyo; indoor lap pool; on-site wedding chapel; full-service spa with steam rooms, saunas, and whirlpools; and a variety of upscale restaurants are just a few of the luxe amenities to be found at this modern hotel. 

The 21-story Grand Hyatt Tokyo hotel cuts an impressive silhouette in a neighborhood known for its high-end shops, art galleries, and IT industry offices. Renovated in 2014, the hotel has seven restaurants, three bars, a 14,000-square-foot spa, a beauty salon, a business center with laptop rental and printing services, and a lobby shop with more than 150 different cigars. At 452 square feet, the Standard Rooms are large, especially for Tokyo, where space is at a premium. All have work desks, mini-fridges, stocked minibars, and high-tech limestone-tiled bathrooms.

Opened in 1915, the Tokyo Station Hotel's tumultuous 100-year history has made it one of the city's officially designated Important Culture Properties. A long renovation was completed in 2012, and the hotel's combination of high-end amenities and historic flair has earned it a place as one of the city's most renowned luxury properties. The 150 rooms and suites are decorated in a classic European style, with high molded ceilings, elegant chandeliers, plush carpets, and high-backed sitting chairs. The hotel also has several eateries (including three Japanese restaurants), a leather-clad cocktail bar, and a spa with several hydrotherapy pools, including a carbonated hot spring pool and a cold bath.

The Hotel New Otani Tokyo Executive House ZEN & The Main are part of the New Otani luxury hotel complex, which sits in a 400-year-old Japanese garden. There are 643 rooms between the two concepts, and while they both offer spacious and stylish accommodations -- many with great views of the surrounding garden -- the properties have very different personalities. The Executive House is premium and edgy, with an ultra-modern feel, while The Main is bright and reserved, with a more traditional vibe. The property has multiple dining options (including a rotating restaurant on the 17th floor), a business center, and free parking. Three subway stations and the Akasaka Palace and State Guest House are in walking distance of its location

The main building of the exclusive Imperial Hotel was built in 1890 and served as a guest house for distinguished international travelers. This property has since been expanded to include two high-rise towers with views of Ginza, the Imperial Palace, and Hibiya Park. Across the board, the 900-plus rooms are stylish and spacious, with a warm, neutral palette and conveniences like stocked minibars with glassware, tea kettles and coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and smarts console to control the lights, climate, and TV. Thirteen on-site dining choices range from traditional Japanese to French.  

Surrounded by office buildings, the 38-story Hilton Tokyo's immediate neighborhood can be hectic during the day, but the area settles down during evenings and weekends. Each of the Hilton's 815 rooms has modern decor: carpets are emblazoned with a graphic, calligraphy-like pattern and red leather arm chairs in the sitting areas. All rooms have 40-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, mini-fridges, bedside iPod docks, and glass-top work desks with adjustable lamps and roller chairs. Features include rooftop tennis courts, a 24-hour full spa and indoor pool, and multiple dining and drinking options.

The 626-room Price Park Tower Tokyo is a luxury high-rise hotel in Shiba Park, close to the Tokyo Tower and a short walk to several subway stations. It also offers a free shuttle service to the airports and the nearest train station. For a luxury hotel, the lower category rooms are surprisingly ordinary, but some upgraded rooms have posh extras like Japanese gardens or access to the exclusive Premium Club Lounge. The hotel offers a wide array of features, including seven restaurants, a natural hot spring spa, pool, fitness center, and even a bowling alley. For all its extras, rates here are reasonable compared to similar properties. 

The Hotel New Otani Tokyo Garden Tower is part of the multi-property Hotel New Otani complex. The entire property is considered luxury-class, however the Garden Tower is in need of a facelift. Even though it sits in a historic Japanese garden and is well-maintained overall, the decor and furnishings are decades out of date. There are a whopping 1,479 spacious rooms in the tower, with varying styles of decor along with minibars and flat-screen TVs. The property also has a fitness center and multiple restaurants. Visitors can reach one of three subway stations in less than 10 minutes on foot, as well as attractions like the Hie Shrine and Akasaka Palace.
