Known for being one of the few hotel-monuments in Spain, the 26-room Caro is a unique luxury boutique located in the heart of the city center. The hotel seamlessly blends stunning historic elements such as mosaic tiles from the Roman period, parts of the city’s Moorish walls, and Gothic wooden beams with chic minimalist decor, both in rooms and common spaces. Alma de Temple Restaurant is known among locals and visitors alike for its excellent Mediterranean cuisine, and the bar has an intimate patio complete with a small plunge pool. The Caro offers in-room massage services and free Wi-Fi throughout, but lacks a full spa and a fitness center. Hospes Palau de la Mar Hotel has both of those amenities and similar prices, but Caro Hotel has more character and charm. 

An upscale hotel in a quiet beachfront neighborhood, Hotel Las Arenas Balneario Resort has both luxurious amenities and substantial business facilities. Its sprawling, sometimes impersonal atmosphere has earned it a reputation as being more suited to convention-goers than individual travelers. Nevertheless, with its enviable setting, the hotel attracts all types and often hosts weddings. Along with the ocean, the spa and pools offer plenty of opportunities for relaxation. Spacious rooms are decorated with pastels and light wood furnishings; bathrooms, too, are large, with plush robes and slippers. While the hotel has all the amenities one would expect from a first-class resort, service is sometimes inconsistent for the average tourist, largely due to the heavy emphasis on meetings and conventions.

The 101-room Vincci Lys hotel is in a superb location, right in the heart of Valencia’s city center. The hotel is elegant, clean, and convenient, right next to the train station, and less than a 10-minute walk to the Valencia Cathedral and other old-town attractions. If guests are looking for charm, old-world Spanish character, or a peaceful hideaway, the Vincci Lys, set amid shops, bars, and cafes, is not the place, but for a home base in the center of the city, this is the spot.

Vincci Mercat is an attractive and modern three-and-a-half-pearl boutique hotel that's a short stroll from the vast Mercat Central covered market. With its location in Old Town and near other sights, the property is an excellent choice for tourists. A rooftop plunge pool with a seasonal poolside bar is the highlight feature here, and the hotel offer a solid hot breakfast buffet for a fee and has a lobby bar. The 68 streamline guest rooms all come with flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, minibars, and free Wi-Fi, and some have balconies. Travelers looking for a hotel with a fitness center can check out Zenit Valencia, which is also closer to Estacio del Nord train station. 

Hotel Kramer is a chic three-pearl hotel with budget rates, since it's located outside of Valencia's city center. Still, it's in a walkable neighborhood and directly next to the Turia metro station. Seventy updated rooms present an almost industrial look and have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and mini-fridges. Extras include a simple breakfast (that’s free with direct booking from the hotel), trendy tapas restaurant, and cozy reading room. The biggest downside is noise between rooms. It's worth comparing prices at the nearby NH Valencia Center, which has a rooftop pool, gym, and business facilities for not much more money. 

The Westin Valenica is a large, high-end property that's also a good base for discovering the city. The hotel combines classic style with modern technology, drawing many business travelers and large groups with its several ultramodern function rooms and banquet hall. Housed in a majestic white building, easily one of the most impressive structures in the city, the hotel is within walking distance of the center of Valencia. There are three on-site restaurants to choose from -- including those offering Mediterranean and Japanese fare -- plus a cocktail bar/club with terrace. The Caroli Health Club is a great place to replenish, with thermal and water treatments, and guest rooms are large. However, some can be loud and there are fees for Wi-Fi, parking, and use of the heated pool.

A nine-story building on the outskirts of the old city, the Hotel Dimar is a contemporary, upscale hotel at a reasonable price. Those wanting an authentic Valenican experience will find the hotel is well-situated in a residential neighborhood with cafes, bars, and shops frequented by locals. Bicycles provided by the hotel make it easy for guests to take in the rhythm of the city. Renovated in 2009, the entire property gives off an air of modernity and openness. A delicious free breakfast includes hot and cold items, and there's even a Nespresso machine. Rooms are somewhat trendy, with minimalist furnishings, and some have balconies; some facing the street can be noisy.

For those looking for a modern hotel in central Valencia that delivers the basics, the three-pearl Catalonia Excelsior is a solid choice. It offers a varied breakfast buffet (not included in rates), limited room service, and a small gym. The 84 rooms vary in decor from homey to sleek, but all have top-notch amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, kettles, and marble bathrooms, although parts of the hotel show a bit of age. Past guests have complained about noise issues between the rooms. Myr Plaza Mercado & Spa, with a restaurant, spa, and rooms with kitchenettes, is a good -- if somewhat pricier -- alternative. 

The 76-room Vincci Palace Valencia is a three-pearl property located right in Valencia's Ciutat Vella, or Old City. As such, there are plenty of attractions, restaurants, bars, and shops within an easy walk. Rooms are modern and tastefully decorated, though some of the furniture is worn and street noise can be an issue. Standard features include air-conditioning, minibars, safes, and flat-screen TVs. Some have balconies. A breakfast buffet is served daily for a fee, and the cozy, elegant lobby serves as a lounge as well. A rooftop terrace with views of the city provides a place for sunning or smoking. As an alternative, the Hotel Dimar is a similarly priced property with sharp interiors nearby -- it also offers a free breakfast.  

Hotel Conqueridor is an upper-middle-range property with decor and services that are a step up from the more basic chain hotels in the same price range. Breakfast isn't included with the price of a room, but "C" Restaurant serves tasty a la carte Mediterranean cuisine and Lobby-Bar has snacks and drinks for sale. The small fitness center has a free sauna for guest use as well. The location is ideal for those who want to explore the city of Valencia, though it may be worth comparing rates at the similarly-priced Ayre Hotel Astoria Palace, especially for those who want to be closer to high-end shops.

B&B Hi Valencia Boutique has a great location right in Valencia's Ciutat Vella (Old City) surrounded by attractions, restaurants, bars, and shops. Despite the name, it's not a traditional bed-and-breakfast, and there are no common areas apart from a small reception room. (Most guests obtain breakfast at a coffee shop across the street for a fee.) The 11 elegantly decorated rooms are on the small side, but they are equipped with flat-screen TVs and modern bathrooms. Most have Nespresso machines and mini-fridges, too, although some lack external views. It's worth comparison shopping with hotels in the same neighborhood; the Kasa Katia Guest House, on a pedestrianized street, offers an on-site breakfast, for a fee.

Primus Valencia is a four-star property with lots of bells and whistles -- but you'll pay extra fees to use them. Rooms are spacious with a minimalist decor and shower/bathtub combinations. There's an on-site restaurant and casual bar for drinks as well. The real standout, however, is the basement spa complete with a hammam, indoor swimming pool, and hot tub. Wi-Fi and use of the fitness center are free. For generally slightly better rates, consider the Hotel Conqueridor.

The Ayre Hotel Astoria Palace is a four-pearl property with more personality and features than what’s usually found at this price range. Though there’s an extra charge for breakfast, the hotel does offer free amenities like Wi-Fi, fitness center access, and bottles of mineral water. There's also an on-site restaurant serving Mediterranean food and a popular lounge bar with a weekly DJ. Panoramic views of Valencia are available from the eighth floor as well. Rooms are spacious, but decor varies.

Located in a mall on one of Valencia's main thoroughfares, the sleekly modern three-pearl Hotel Alameda Plaza (previously the Holiday Inn Valencia) sits opposite the City of Arts and Sciences, and is about a five-minute drive to the port and a 15-minute drive to town. It packs in some nice amenities, including a gym, the Mezzo Mezzo restaurant, meeting rooms, and a small rooftop pool with city views from the surrounding terrace. The 200 guest rooms are spacious, and have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and kettles, but they've begun to show some wear and tear. With the mid-2016 shift from Holiday Inn ownership, the property still has some kinks to work out, especially regarding service, according to some guests. Travelers could also check out the Hotel Conqueridor, which is closer to the city center but has slightly higher rates.
