Castle Hill Resort and Spa offers old world charm that is all about the details -- from the historic wood-paneled walls to the library filled with old books. There are just 10 quaint rooms here, offering romantic touches like Tiffany lamps, claw foot tubs, and brick fireplaces. While the vibe is definitely historic, there are also modern amenities on offer including free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. The outdoor spaces here are equally as special, including lush gardens, ivy-covered stone walls, and a sleek, sexy pool. And the small spa is an unexpected extra in a hotel of this size.

From the outside the Pitcher Inn might appear like a typical New England B&B, but once inside, the quality and character of this property is revealed. With its warm, urban-chic vibe, Amee Farm isn't a typical B&B. Rooms look straight out of an interior design magazine, with a near-perfect combination of rustic, warm, quaint, and stylish touches. Bathrooms have granite showers with rain showerheads and updated fixtures (though not all rooms have private bathrooms). Couples love this spot for its secluded location; the hotel features a cozy on-site restaurant, but otherwise there's not much around aside from a general store.

The Inn at the Round Barn Farm has a serene location with more than 245 acres of rolling green hills in every direction. It has a decidedly romantic ambiance, with rooms that have Jacuzzi tubs and/or working fireplaces. Unfortunately, bathrooms are small throughout, and many rooms have showers only. Having a small indoor pool and fitness center (though technically it's only a few cardio machines) is a true B&B rarity in these parts, but the real draws here are the peaceful ambiance, romantic and cozy experience, incredible views, and fresh air.

Stowe Mountain Lodge is one of the top luxury properties in Vermont, and also one of the most romantic -- though it loses points for intimacy due to its massive size. It offers rustic elegance throughout -- from the impressive lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows to the bright, contemporary rooms. This property has a lot in the way of amenities, particularly for the area: an inviting spa, a big outdoor pool with mountain views, an acclaimed restaurant, and an 18-hole golf course. The rooms aren't quite as luxurious as some might expect for a hotel of this category, but they're outfitted in simple, clean mountain decor that lends them a cozy, romantic vibe and while all have balconies, most have working fireplaces.

The Woodstock Inn is one of the most outstanding properties in Woodstock, with beautiful, manicured grounds, quintessential Vermont architecture, a gorgeous spa, wonderful fitness and wellness amenities, solid dining options, and a great location in a quiet pocket in the heart of the village. Rooms are spacious and have an understated decor of earth tones with lots of wood and green accents, plus sexy marble bathrooms -- and some rooms have fireplaces. Views from many rooms are of the lush, sprawling grounds. It's a large property for Vermont, though, so couples looking for a more intimate experience may prefer one of the state's many B&Bs.
