The Kummer Hotel presents itself as an elegant, 19th-century hotel finished with pilasters, cornice details, and balustrade balconies. The entryway and lobby bar continue on this theme with gray marble floors, grand archways laced with painted gold details, wood paneled accents, and chandelier lighting. The stairwell is similarly impressive, finished at the top with a stained-glass ceiling. Other common areas, like the library lounge and restaurant (which was renovated in 2010), bring this exuberant ornamentation down two or three notches, with simple wood furniture, red carpeting, and gray pleather seating. Rooms, too, aren't quite up to the opulent standard set by the entryway. Still, it's a clean and comfortable property with big rooms and competitive prices, frequented by a range of travelers, including couples and families.

The Kummer Hotel is centrally located on Mariahilferstrasse, a lively pedestrian shopping street full of mid-range shops and some eateries. The Naschmarkt and MuseumsQuarter are about a 10-minute walk, and guests can get to the edge of Vienna's historic center and Hofburg Palace in about 21 minutes on foot. Guests can also connect to local attractions using the subway -- the Neubaugasse UBahn station is just a one-minute walk from the hotel. Vienna International Airport is a 25-minute drive.

Rooms are spacious with high ceilings and traditional decor that lands somewhere between homey and outdated. Green wall-to-wall carpeting meets beige walls while wood furniture, white beds, faux-gold light fixtures, and reddish drapes finish the look. Walls are mostly empty and accents, like wallpaper borders, can feel more '90s than 19th century. White or gray tiled bathrooms are contemporary and big, with combination soaking tubs and showers. 

Rooms have desks, wardrobes, AC, safes, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Minibars are lightly stocked with a few beverages. There's no coffee/tea service (although room service is available from morning until evening). Bathrooms have hairdryers and a combination of individual toiletries and wall-mounted dispensers. 

As with its decor, the Kummer Hotel feels uneven when it comes to features: wellness facilities are notably absent, but dining is fairly well represented. The hotel has its own restaurant which serves international and Viennese dishes for lunch and dinner. The dining room decor feels a bit dated to some, but most guests appreciate the free breakfast buffet, which offers a nice range of hot and cold standards. There's also a small but charming lobby bar, open until the evening and surrounded by lots of lounge spaces. Room service is available into the evening. The hotel also has two meeting and event rooms, which can host up to 120 guests in total. 

The hotel has a 24-hour front desk and staff can arrange babysitting, laundry service, or airport shuttles, albeit for extra fees. Pets are accepted for a nightly fee and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
