The Rainers Hotel Vienna's style is straightforward and businesslike. Furnished largely in laminated wood with green and yellow accents, the decor might not inspire -- the bright entryway leads into a lobby that looks like an economy chain's -- but the hotel's public areas are clean and streamlined. The front desk is decorated in green-and-yellow squares that tie-in the boxy overhead lighting. There are a terrace and a sleek-looking restaurant, which serves Viennese and international fare paired with wine. The more casual sports bar off the lobby, which has a large flat-screen TV,  is the place to watch sports events.

Located in Margareten, Vienna's urban fifth district, the hotel is not within walking distance of  any of the city's attractions, although Belvedere Palace, with its beautiful gardens, is about a six-minute drive away. Business Park Vienna, the city's sprawling office park and its corporate complexes, is a six-minute drive in the opposite direction. The closest U-Bahn at Keplerplatz is about a 15-minute walk, and the 14A bus and the trains at Matzleinsdorferplatz junction are less than 10 minutes away on foot. Expect a 25- to 30-minute drive to the Vienna International Airport.

Rooms can be on the small side. They have a contemporary, minimalist decor. Dark furniture is brightened by lime-green carpets with the green-and-yellow accents favored throughout the hotel on curtains and other fabrics. The Economy Rooms have small desks, though some are missing chairs, and the cramped bathrooms have small walk-in showers. Lighting is strategically placed for the best effect, with interesting floor lamps that project light onto the walls. Small bedside reading lamps protrude from the headboards. Other rooms  have larger work desks and chairs, as well as sleeper chairs that convert into extra beds. The white-tiled modern bathrooms have shower/tub combos and vanities with ample space for belongings. Minibars and tea/coffeemakers come standard in every room, along with a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi.

The hotel's 12  meeting rooms serve small conferences and business events, with  catering facilities and self-serve Nespresso machines on hand. Some rooms come equipped with iMac workstations, computers, and printers, and there's a 24-hour business center with another pair of iMacs. The fitness center has treadmills, cardio bikes, free weights, and an elliptical machine. The casual lobby bar broadcasts live sports events on a large flat-screen TV. The more upscale restaurant serves a changing menu of Viennese and international cuisine that it pairs with wine, and has an outdoor terrace with limited seating.
