Bottom Line

The Atlantic Hotel is a mid-range, 42-room beachfront property set on a cliff overlooking South Beach in Tenby. Interiors are elegant, featuring Georgian decor such as hardwood floors, leather armchairs, and crystal chandeliers. The hotel is located in downtown, so most local attractions can reached within a 10-minute walk. Rooms are bright and pleasant, plus many look out onto the beach. However, some are small, and because decor varies, some are more modern than others. There is a lovely indoor pool with a hot tub and steam room and a cliffside garden that leads to the beach. A bar and restaurant are also on-site, and all rates include breakfast. Guests who want a hotel with a full-service spa might prefer the local Heywood Spa Hotel, though their rooms are pricier.

Atlantic Hotel

Scene

Georgian hotel on the edge of a seaside cliff

The waterfront Atlantic Hotel is set in a Georgian building on a seaside cliff. The three-story house's facade is a pretty buttercream yellow house with white accents and several brick chimneys rising from its dark grey roof. The ground floor has a white wrought-iron fence around it and the entrance has a large stone archway with a grey stone horse head at the top (the symbol of the hotel). Inside, the design is a mix of elegant and classic furnishings. The light-wood flooring of the lobby is stamped with the horse head symbol and is accompanied by darker wood furniture and Georgian-era drawings and vases. Public spaces are few, but a light-filled lounge has two crystal chandeliers, tan-leather seating, and a fireplace, while the more plain breakfast room has simple wood furnishings and whitewashed columns. Overall, it has an attractive, if a bit old-fashioned design and amenities that appeal mostly to couples.

Location

Almost everything in the town of Tenby is within walking distance

The Atlantic Hotel is located on a seaside cliff in the town of Tenby in southwestern Wales. Because it is located downtown, almost everything in Tenby is within a 10-minute walk. Local attractions include the Tudor Merchant's House (a replica of a 15th-century merchant's house that is a six-minute walk away), the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery (a nine-minute walk away), and the Tenby Lifeboat Station (a boathouse with two lifeboats that is a 10-minute walk away, as is the Tenby train station). Carew Castle is a 16-minute drive away. The hotel has free on-site parking, though there are fewer spaces than rooms.

Rooms

Sea-view rooms are worth the extra price

The 42 rooms have a classical design like the rest of the property. Most have tan carpeting, cream walls, and white sheets topped with bed runners and throw pillows in colors such as gold, green, and navy. Some have more dated blue patterned carpet and colorful patterned curtains, while others have lovely chandeliers and vintage chifferobes. Guests say sea-view rooms are worth the extra cost. Note that some rooms and bathrooms can be tight on space.

All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, cookies, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Bathrooms have white-tile or blonde-wood floors, shower/tub combos, and towel warmers. Hairdryers and toiletries are also provided.

Features

Indoor pool and hot tub, plus free breakfast and beachfront access

The Atlantic lacks a gym but it has an indoor heated pool with a dark-blue mosaic of the hotel's horse head symbol of the hotel on the bottom. Next to the pool, there are a hot tub and a steam room with heated loungers. Another relaxing spot is a cliffside garden that is gorgeously landscaped with a large terrace featuring plenty of seating. There is a stone stairway leading down from the garden to the mile-and-a-half-long (2.4 km) South Beach, which is sandy and stunningly beautiful.

There is an independently owned restaurant in the basement called The Salt Cellar Restaurant, which was remodeled in 2016. There is a hotel bar for a more casual dining experience, as well as a large breakfast room for the free hot and cold buffet that receives positive reviews.

Wi-Fi is free throughout.
