Like the modern facade, the interiors at this mid-range hotel are sleek and contemporary. Upon entering, guests are greeted in a simple, airy lobby where different materials and textures -- slate floors, white marble detail, and dark-wood wall panels -- combine with white and navy walls for a modern effect. Farther in, there's an inviting seating area with plush sofas, book-lined walls, and a marble fireplace, with plenty of magazines and coffee table books for guests to thumb through hand. Large framed photos of movie stars line the walls throughout the entire property.

La Piazza, the on-site restaurant, is equally inviting, with walls of windows and doors that open onto an outdoor patio. Stylish green and tangerine-orange chairs and sofas are paired with elegant booth seating and bar stools lining the windows. White marble makes an appearance here too, while vintage Italian posters hang on cheery aqua-colored walls. There's also a lovely outdoor area with comfy patio furniture. The property attracts a mix of tourists and business travelers looking for a self-catering option.

Avenue Suites Georgetown is well-located in the West End, within a 10-minute walk of many of Georgetown's restaurants and shops and just down the street from Washington Circle. There are plenty of dining options in the area and a Trader Joe's sits right across the street. The White House is within a 25-minute walk of the property (or around a 10-minute drive), as is the Lincoln Memorial. The Washington Monument and the Capitol are about 10 to 15 minutes by car (or up to half an hour by public transportation). The Smithsonian Museums can be reached in 10 to 15 minutes by car, or around 20 minutes by public transportation. The Foggy Bottom-GWU metro station is a six-minute walk from the hotel. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is a 10- to 20-minute drive, but can take much longer during periods of peak traffic, or 35 minutes by metro via the Blue Line of the metro.

Rooms and suites here are spacious and decorated in a simple, contemporary manner. Sleek, dark furnishings, dark carpets, and dark accent walls are brightened with pops of color, with decorative touches such as teal sofas or and red bedside lamps. There are two types of rooms and several different suite categories available. Entry-level Avenue King Rooms start at 320 square feet (28 square meters), while Avenue Executive Rooms measure 500 square feet (46.5 square meters) and add sitting areas with sleeper sofas and wet bars. Some also have large terraces with plush sofas. Suites start at 600 square feet (56 square meters) and all have living areas or separate living rooms with sofas, as well as full kitchens equipped with stoves, ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, fridges, Keurig coffeemakers, dishes, and cookware. Some kitchens are a bit tired and could use an update, while others are more modern. Both bedrooms and living areas are equipped with 42-inch flat-screen TVs, and all units have works desks. Bathrooms vary quite a bit. Lower-category have shower/tub combos and could use a refresh, while higher-category rooms have chic white marble bathrooms with walk-in rainfall showers and large vanities. 

A fair amount of amenities are on offer at Avenue Suites Georgetown. One of the highlights is La Piazza, a casual Italian restaurant that overlooks a lovely outdoor patio and is open for breakfast (for a fee) and dinner. Dinner options include pizza, beer, wine, and cocktails (with a daily happy hour offering deals on drinks), all in a stylish and inviting setting with indoor and outdoor seating. Travelers who book directly through the hotel also get a free cup of coffee every morning and a free drink at La Piazza. Other features include a small fitness room with just three machines: an elliptical, a treadmill, and a stationary bike, plus free weights. Towels, water, and apples are provided. The hotel also offers free weekly running tours of the area and yoga classes, plus guests have unlimited access to classes at nearby Georgetown Yoga, a five-minute walk away. 

The hotel's Stock Your Fridge program means that guests can get food items from Trader Joe's delivered straight to their rooms. Meeting space is available for rent and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
