The
property is well maintained inside and out. The guest rooms are housed inside a
two-story motel-style building, with black wrought-iron balcony railings, red
doors, and a white brick exterior. A green lawn with flowers and gazebo provide
pleasant scenery on the ample walking grounds, but it can appear dismal during
the off-season. Inside, the lobby is small with a pine-wood paneled front desk and matching ceiling,
dark carpeting, hanging souvenirs for sale, and a rack of maps and local
excursions. To one side, free coffee and doughnuts sit on top of a foldable
table. Tourists and families are clearly the main clientele.The
indoor hot tub room is attractive, though it lacks frills. Past the lobby, the
stone floor and tiled tub sits sunken in the middle of the room. Plastic
patio furniture offers limited seating.

In
the downtown neighborhood of Wisconsin Dells, Ambers Hideaway is within walking
distance of shops and restaurants -- a necessary convenience because of the zero
on-site dining options. Just next-door is Mitzi's American Grill. A 10-minute
walk along Broadway will bring visitors down toward the Wisconsin River and a
number of restaurants including Kilbourn Broadway Grill, Carvelli's, Taste of
New Orleans, and Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que, to name a few. A fun place for anyone
with a sweet tooth is Root Beer Revelry, where guests can order root beer on
tap and browse over 50 brands. For
family fun, Noah’s Ark is the biggest water park in America and the most
popular attraction, bringing the majority of families to Wisconsin Dells. From
Ambers Hideaway, this water park is across the river and a 10-minute drive
away. Alternatively, the motel offers free passes to Chula Vista water park, a
five-minute drive north. Nearby this particular water park is the Pine Aire
Country Club and the Dells of the Wisconsin River State Natural Area, which is
one of the top nature sights in the area. Here is where nature enthusiasts can
find the famous Witches Gulch, a slot canyon that provides a mossy sandstone
backdrop for leisure hikes.

What
guests should expect is a clean room, a few add-ons, and no frills. Rooms have
mini-fridges, microwaves, flat-screen TVs, and coffee stations. The furnishings
are quite average as this is not a luxury hotel. It offers an adequate place to
relax after a day at the water and state parks. The property’s six room options
include Double Queen, King with Sofa Sleeper, King Whirlpool, Queen Adjoining
Room, Two Queen Handicap, and the One-Bedroom Condo. Anyone carrying loads of luggage or has
limited mobility may want to consider rooms on the ground floor as there are no
elevators, although the Queen Adjoining Room is the only option that's
available on the second floor. Families that would rather have a home cooked
meal over a restaurant’s may want to consider the condo, which provides the
best value with a separate living and sleeping area, two sofa beds, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a private deck. Whirlpool rooms have bathrooms with
hot tubs, but they show age and discoloration.  

With
free passes to Chula Vista, this hotel targets families with children. Across the
free parking lot is the outdoor pool, which children are sure to enjoy, though it's only open in the summer months. Inside,
past the lobby, is a small-designated hot tub room that is more for the adult
crowd, though it is open to all ages. A free breakfast is advertised, but
guests should note that this only includes coffee and doughnuts. Back outside
is where guests can find the fire pit and Ping-Pong table, which offer a fun
nighttime scene. Also available at the motel is a free 24-hour shuttle to
Ho-Chunk casino. Free, but spotty, Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
