The 35-room Zante Star is a clean and quiet budget hotel situated on a hillside slightly to the east of Tsilivi and surrounded by olive trees. There is little for children, or even adults, to do here, apart from lounge by the pool, but there is an on-site restaurant that gets good reviews from guests. The town is a good 15-minute walk from the property, and most people who stay here do so to be away from the crowds. Guests who want to be right on the beach may want to consider the Zante Maris Hotel instead.
Scene
Popular with couples looking for a peaceful alternative to properties right in town
The grounds at the Zante Star consist of two-story buildings with wrought-iron railings that flank the pool; the general atmosphere is relaxed, and not overcrowded. Guests have noted that Tsilivi's typical partying and karaoke noise is absent at this peaceful venue. There's little for children to do at the hotel; as a result, most guests are adults and couples looking for a quiet retreat.
Location
On a quiet hillside street, a 15-minute walk outside of town
The property enjoys views of the bay from its position on a hillside slightly east of town. The hotel is surrounded by olive trees and sits on a tiny paved street in an area bordering on rural, though there is a supermarket within easy walking distance for those self-catering. It takes about 15 minutes on foot to reach the main cluster of bars and restaurants in Tsilivi town. The airport is just under 20 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Simple and exceptionally clean rooms with fully equipped kitchenettes
Guest rooms here hew to the style typical of the area, which means light ceramic tile floors, white walls, and lacquered wood furniture. All have air-conditioning and kitchenettes with larger-than-average mini-fridges, as well as toasters, kettles, and stoves. All rooms have patios with wrought-iron railings, wicker chairs, and cafe-style tables. Bathrooms have glass stall showers and hairdryers. Past guests have noted that the rooms are kept immaculately clean and have raved about high-quality bedding and strong water pressure in showers. The overall look, though, is very basic and plain.
Features
Clean, airy pool area, small on-site store, restaurant, and limited Wi-Fi
One notable difference between the Zante Star and other hotels in the area is that the Star's pool area is calm and quiet rather than overrun with lounge chairs and activity. The hotel also has a ping-pong table and a couple of pool tables, but little else in terms of amenities, apart from an on-site restaurant that receives positive feedback from guests. There are two Internet terminals in the lobby and Wi-Fi is only available in the reception area and the bar -- past guests have complained of slow and interrupted connections.
