Hotel Pulitzer is one of Amsterdam's top hotels -- and one of its top hotels for kids. Covenient Family Rooms come with a double bed and two single beds, and children under 12 eat free in the restaurant. (A dedicated children's menu is offered.) Cribs area also available upon request. All rooms are unique with warm design touches such as exposed brick walls and wood floors. The Dylan Amsterdam can accommodate two adults and one child in many of its room types; an extra bed can be added to the Double Rooms, Superior Rooms, and Luxury Suites. In addition, connecting Superior Rooms can be booked, and cribs are available upon request. The Dylan is a stylish, upscale boutique centrally located in the Canal Ring. All rooms have high-end amenities including Bose sound systems, stocked minibars, and Zenology toiletries. A cozy lounge, two bars, and a lovely courtyard with heat lamps are all draws, but the real highlight here is the Michelin-star Vinkeles restaurant, which serves contemporary French cuisine in an exclusive space with just a handful of tables.

Though the Toren has romantic style, it does offer several rooms that can accommodate an extra bed, including some of the Double and Deluxe Rooms. Baby cots and babysitting services are also available. Though each room is unique, they are decorated with the same sophisticated Toren touch combining rich hues, chandeliers, and ceiling paintings. There is a cozy bar on-site, and the hotel is affiliated with Christophe -- an acclaimed restaurant around the corner that delivers directly to guest rooms.

The 116-room Hotel Arena is an historic landmark, built in 1889 as the Sint Elisabeth orphanage. It has been renovated to preserve many of the cool original architectural elements, including an elaborate Gothic, almost steampunk-looking grand lobby staircase. Unusual for Amsterdam, the Hotel Arena is set back from the street on its own grounds, with large outdoor areas for relaxing and socializing over cocktails and snacks, or, for the kids, jumping on the playground's (in-ground) trampoline.

The Ambassade Hotel offers Triple Rooms for families of three, and cribs are available upon request. Babysitting services can also be arranged. The 58-room hotel is tasteful and tidy, made up in classic Louis XV/XVI decor, though no area is the same in layout or appearance. Amenities include a Koan Float (which involves floating in saltwater in a stimuli-free capsule) and massage facilities. The breakfast room is classy with modern artwork, and the lovely tables are topped with bright yellow calla lilies. Guests have access to a cozy library and computer room.

The Convent Hotel offers Triple Rooms with three twin beds, which are convenient for families. Cribs are also available upon request, as are extra beds for children (depending on room type). Guest rooms are clean, though a bit outdated in decor, and have modern touches such as flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, minibars, and free Wi-Fi; beds come with soft pillow-top mattresses. The location is convenient, within walking distance of attractions such as Dam Square and the Anne Frank House.

Housed in an avant-garde blue building erected in the 1970s, the three-floor Best Western Blue Square Hotel is a mid-level property located a few miles west of Amsterdam's core. The hotel has an ample breakfast buffet (for a fee),dinner restaurant, cocktail bar, and modern rooms with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Guests willing to trade proximity to tourist attractions can save a little on room rates, and the tram is a block away for the 25-minute trip into the city center.

An intimate, 15-room hotel in a four-floor building, Hotel Fita offers a superb location one block from the Stedelijk and Van Gogh Museum and two blocks from the Rijksmuseum. Rooms are simple but thoughtfully put together, and come with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs; baby cots are available. The Fita offers an ample free breakfast featuring Dutch pancakes, but lacks the facilities of nearby hotels such as the Marriott. A stay here is a good choice for travelers who want a simple affordable stay, with ready access to the museums and the tram a block away.

The three-pearl Hotel Aalders, located in Amsterdam's Museum Quarter, is within a five-minute walk from Vondelpark and a 16-minute drive from Amsterdam Centraal, Amsterdam's largest railway station. The 28 rooms, including family rooms, are split between two 20th century properties with authentic historic decor including intricate ceilings and an ornate wooden staircase, though some rooms are small.
