Derwent House Boutique Hotel

Both a great value and romantic pick, the Derwent House Boutique Hotel is a small, modern property located in a residential neighborhood. There are only nine rooms — all simple but homey and featuring comforts like iPod docks, hairdryers, safes, flat-screen TVs, and mobile phones for guests to use during their stays. The hotel has a pretty outdoor deck with a pool, hot tub, and lounge chairs. Though there’s no full restaurant, the boutique offers a free breakfast each morning.

Blackheath Lodge

Another intimate property, the Blackheath Lodge is a Victorian property consisting of 12 rooms. Near both the beaches and center of Cape Town, it is within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and bars. The boutique has a funky and fun vibe, seen in the deer head made of coke cans hanging in the lobby and collage of “B”s  that hang in the restaurant. The rooms are individually decorated with bright patterns and curios, and some come with full kitchens. An ample free breakfast is served daily and can be enjoyed outside overlooking the heated pool and garden. 

One&Only Cape Town

For a luxury option, the One&Only Cape Town definitely delivers. The 131-room property is set along the canal, offering gorgeous views and a short walk to the bustling Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Rates are high, but the hotel has two acclaimed restaurants, a spa with a pool, sauna, and several treatment rooms, and a kids’ club. Designed in earthy hues, the rooms are large (starting at 678 sq. feet) and amenities include iPod docks, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, stocked mini-fridges, and Nespresso machines. The private balconies and terraces overlook Table Mountain or the marina.

Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel

A well-known luxury property, the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel is a prime option for leisure and business travelers alike. The 201 rooms and suites are classic and elegant, though they have modern amenities like iPod docks, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, and free Wi-Fi. Typical of this caliber of hotel, there’s a sleek spa, two pools (one is adults-only), and a fine-dining restaurant. 

An African Villa

Comprised of three Victorian houses, An African Villa is a 12-room boutique hotel that receives rave reviews from past guests. Located outside the city center in a residential area, it’s a quiet retreat with owners who are happy to help guests with advice or arranging outings. There’s no full restaurant, but a free breakfast is served in the courtyard and free cake, port, and sherry are offered in the evening. The rooms are bright with African touches and high ceilings. Kids under 12 aren’t allowed in the hotel, so don’t worry about getting splashed in the small plunge pool

POD Camps Bay

Both a luxury and eco-friendly hotel, POD Camps Bay has a chic, minimalist style that uses various wood and stone design elements. The 15 rooms have views of either the beach or mountains, most with balconies and some with private pools. There’s also a rooftop pool with adjacent bar that enjoys pretty views of the ocean. Other amenities include available spa treatments, a solid free breakfast of cooked-to-order items, fruit, and pastries, and free minibar items.

The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa

Set in a 1920s-era gabled farmhouse, the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa is a luxury property with scenic views of both the Atlantic Ocean and its namesake mountain range. The 70 guest rooms are bright and breezy, with balconies, 24-hour room service, and entertainment centers with flat-screen TVs and DVD players. Turndown service, pillow and soap menus, and coffee- and tea-making facilities are nice extras. There’s a ton of amenities to keep busy: two pools; a spa with hydrotherapy pool; 16-seat cinema; fine dining restaurant and casual cafe; and a bar that hosts Tea by the Sea, a daily afternoon tea with pastries, tea, and coffee.

The 120 rooms are elegantly decorated, featuring gorgeous marble bathrooms and thoughtful amenities like capsule coffeemakers, safes, minibars, iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, and air-conditioning. There’s a spa with sauna and various treatments available, but no swimming pool. An extensive breakfast buffet is available for a fee and afternoon tea is served daily. 

Glen Boutique Hotel

The 24-room Glen Boutique Hotel is a secluded, gay-friendly property located in a residential area. The gorgeous property has a lot to offer guests: terraced pool area with outdoor hot tub and lounge chairs; spa with Moroccan-style steam room and Swedish sauna; and a restaurant and two bars for food and drinks. The rooms are contemporary and stylish, each featuring either a balcony or terrace, many with mountain and/or sea views.

2Inn1 Kensington

One of the more popular hotels in Cape Town, the 2inn1 Kensington is a small, upscale boutique a short drive from the center of Cape Town. A renovated Victorian house, the stylish property is replete with African charm. With only nine rooms, guests are given personal attention, and many guests rave about friendly owners Kris and Klaus, who can give excellent local recommendations. The hotels boasts an attractive outdoor pool, modern rooms, fabulous views of Table Mountain, an excellent breakfast, and small spa.
