Aloft Asheville Downtown is a 115-room, modern, pet-friendly hotel with restaurants, shops, historic sites, parks, museums, and more within walking distance. The rooms are stylish and include pet amenities, but lack square footage; noise can also be an issue for those on top or bottom levels (due to bar proximity). A spacious rooftop pool and terrace offer great views; the breakfast area features Starbucks coffee; and the W XYZ bar serves unique cocktails and small plates. An attached parking garage does offer parking but there is a daily fee.

From the outside, Residences at Biltmore looks like an upscale apartment complex surrounded by a stacked stone wall. Inside, it still feels more like a condo property than a hotel, as there is no lobby -- just a registration office -- and common areas consist of an outdoor pool area with a hot tub and fire pit. This set-up is ideal for the mainly groups and families who stay here while vacationing in Asheville, as Residences' apartment-style rooms (studios and one- and two-bedroom units) are homey and well-equipped. Each unit has a furnished balcony, stacked stone gas fireplace, a washer/dryer, and a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. 

For a budget chain just off I-40, the Sleep Inn Asheville Biltmore West is fresh and modern. All 74 of its rooms include 32-inch flat-screen TVs, single-cup coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Mini-fridges, microwaves, cribs, and mountain-view rooms are available on request. A free breakfast buffet includes hot and cold items such as sausages and eggs, cereal, yogurt, waffles, breads, juice, and coffee, and there's a small patio out back. Coffee and cookies are served in the lobby in the afternoon. A business desk in the lobby has a computer and printer for guests to use, and there is a small fitness room. Pets are allowed, but there are fees and restrictions.

The mid-range Country Inn & Suites Asheville West is near highways and within a short drive of downtown and attractions. It delivers all the expected chain brand amenities (free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, microwaves, free hot breakfast) and you can walk to few chain restaurants. Some rooms have views of the Blue Ridge Mountains while others suffer noise from hallway noise, but all are clean and homey. It's a great mid-range value -- rates tend to be more affordable than at sister property Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Asheville Downtown Tunnel Road. The neighboring Sleep Inn West can be cheaper but lacks the Country Inn's pool. 

The 111-room Holiday Inn Asheville - Biltmore East is a contemporary mid-range property with a lodge-like feel and convenient setting near highways. Finished renovating in 2017, rooms are spacious, modern, and well-equipped with ample USB charging ports, sofa beds, desks, microwaves, and Keurig coffeemakers. A heated outdoor pool is open for half of the year, while a small fitness center with a few cardio machines and free weights is open 24/7. The well-regarded Woodfire Bar and Grille offers both a la carte and buffet breakfasts, as well as American fare for dinner. A bar is open late. An outdoor walking trail, free Wi-Fi, and meeting spaces are also on-site. On the downside, bathrooms are small and it's a 10-minute drive to downtown. 

Best Western Asheville Tunnel Road is a good value hotel on busy Tunnel Road that provides easy access to downtown Asheville in five minutes by car. It's close to the Asheville Mall, and multiple chain restaurants are within walking distance. Modern rooms have some attractive design features like sharp accent walls, and include mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers, though some furniture is dated. The free breakfast is bountiful and the heated outdoor pool is a plus. Guests looking for sharp rooms at even lower rates may want to try Super 8 Asheville on Tunnel Road, which has a fitness room, though it lacks a pool.
