Hotel NEO Seminyak - Petitenget has attractive qualities, although the ambiance is a little lacking and the hotel is often empty during the day. Most travelers treat it as a place to crash to explore the trendy neighborhood or to hit the beach. The property's leafy interior courtyard has a small plunge pool that's rarely used, but there's an airy and colorful cafe with a relaxing atmosphere and streetside seating that's ideal for people-watching strollers headed down Petitenget Street. The polished concrete floors and recycled wood details inside give it an industrial feel, and there's a billiards table and lounge-y benches. The area is packed with luxury resorts and villas, but there aren't many budget-friendly hotels. As such, this property draws guests seeking affordable accommodations in a prime location. 

The hotel is located along busy Petitenget Street, near excellent eateries -- favorites include Sardine and Metis, just two minutes on foot, and Merah Putih and Sarong slightly farther afield -- plus plenty of shops, cafes, and bars. The ultra-chic Ku De Ta restaurant is an eight-minute drive, and it's roughly six minutes by car to the happening Potato Head Beach Club. It's about the same to the closest beaches, Petitenget Beach and Batu Belig Beach, which have black sand and decent surf, but heavy rip tides. Waterbom Park, Kuta Beach, and the airport are all around a 30- to 40-minute drive away, though driving times can take much longer during peak hours.

The property's simple, stylish guest rooms feel polished and pulled together. White walls have pale wood paneling, and geometric-patterned wallpaper behind beds add flair. Furniture here is streamlined, with built-in nightstands and open shelves acting as the closet. At 226 square feet (21 square meters), rooms aren't overly spacious, but they do have large windows that open to let in natural light and fresh air. Bathrooms are small yet uncluttered, and feature cream-colored marble on the floors and walls and roomy vanities with vessel sinks. Walk-in showers contain soap dispensers, and toothbrushes and other toiletries are provided.

Rooms are split between two categories, Standard Rooms and those with pool views and balconies (though these are too tiny for sun loungers). Amenities in both include flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, mineral water, slippers, safes, desks, and lightly stocked minibars. Note that rooms are poorly soundproofed, so light sleepers should request units that aren't street-facing. 

Facilities at Hotel NEO Seminyak - Petitenget are limited, but decent for a property in this price range. The pool is small with only three lounge chairs at one end, and it's sandwiched between two buildings so there isn't a lot of direct sunlight. The full-service cafe has a varied menu and buffet breakfast -- which doesn't come included with all rooms -- plus a streetside seating area. There's also an adjoining game room with a billiards table and comfy couches. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and on-site parking, and the front desk is opened 24 hours, but there's no business facilities or gym. Guests should note that beaches aren't within walking distance.
