Villa Kayu Raja features a blend of ultra-modern and traditional Balinese architecture and stylings. The decor in the semi open-air lobby space leans more towards the Balinese side with interior elements that include natural terra-cotta floor tiles, an intricately carved solid wood reception desk, wooden furniture, and local decorations. Entryways to the villas are lined with natural stone walls, tropical greenery, hanging vines, and flowering frangipani trees. The main restaurant features a semi open-air design, an alfresco dining area, and a stylish wood themed decor. Adjacent to the main restaurant is Nebula Cafe, which is a bright and airy street-side cafe and coffee shop that is popular with both hotel guests and locals. Nebula is air-conditioned and features a full glass frontage. 

The hotel is ideally located on a quiet side street near downtown (but away from the noise) of Seminyak and Petitenget. Lining the street in front of the hotel are a decent selection of restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques. The hotel offers daily free shuttles to downtown Seminyak and Kuta, and many popular tourist attractions are less than a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Favorites include Petitenget Beach, W Bali, Potato Head beach club, and Mrs Sippy. The buzzing area of Kayu Aya Street in downtown Seminyak, which is teeming with nightclubs, bars, excellent restaurants, cafes, and boutiques -- is a 10-minute drive. Kuta Beach, Legian, Sanur, and the airport all take around 30 to 45 minutes to reach by car. The drive up north to Ubud is about 60 minutes each way.

Villa Kayu Raja is a boutique all-villa hotel with 48 One-Bedroom Pool Villas and 10 Two-Bedroom Pool Villas. The villas are ultra-modern and feature clean contemporary interiors, plus plenty of space to spread out. Interiors have a sharp well put together decor that includes features like parquet wood floors, comfy upholstered furniture, and modern decorations. All villas are two-stories; bedrooms are upstairs and have large glass windows that let in plenty of natural light and airflow and are outfitted with comfy beds, work tables and chairs, upholstered couches, and roomy wardrobes. The spacious open-plan living room and kitchen area downstairs overlook a private plunge pool and an outdoor terrace with seating. Living rooms are semi open-air and have comfy couch sets, plus large flat-screen TVs with DVD players. Kitchens are outfitted with stoves, sinks, medium-size refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. 

Both the One- and Two-Bedroom Villas have similar interiors and almost identical bedrooms, but the Two-Bedroom Villas have more spacious living rooms, better equipped kitchens, and larger plunge pools. The living room space in the Two-Bedroom Villas includes additional couch seating, a work table and chair, and a large dining table. Standard villa amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, free Wi-Fi, safes, bathrobes and slippers, toiletries, and two bottles of water. Bathrooms are clean and modern with elegant light colored interiors, large vanity countertops with twin sinks and large mirrors, roomy whirlpool soaking tubs, and separate rainfall showers.

One frequent guest complaint is that the plunge pools and surrounding decks get little sun. Also note that the living room areas get hot during the day as they are open-air and have no air-conditioning, though they are equipped with ceiling fans.

Villa Kayu Raja has limited facilities as the villas are self catering and have private pools. The main restaurant is open all day and the menu consists of a variety of Indonesian, Balinese, and Western meals. Buffet breakfast is included in most room rates. Nebula Cafe serves excellent coffee, international fare, and has daily happy hour specials. Raja Kayu Spa is a small modern spa offering beauty and massage treatments. The hotel's lobby space is little more than a place to check in, though it does have a tour desk offering travel arrangements and vehicle rentals. Extras include Wi-Fi, welcome drinks, parking, and scheduled shuttles to downtown Kuta and Seminyak. Hotel guests get free access to Finns Recreational Center, which includes a water park, an olympic-size swimming pool, and a fitness center (a 10-minute drive away).
