A gorgeous building with exquisite brick masonry and flower boxes tucked under windows, the Huis Koning B&B has just three rooms and offers an exclusive stay with personal service. Outside, a modern patio provides a spot for guests to relax next to the canal flanked by lush greenery. Inside, there’s a charming breakfast room where guests can enjoy pastries, homemade breads, and cooked eggs. The room stays open all day offering the use of a coffee machine in the kitchen and pastries left on a table for guests to grab on their way out. A chalkboard announces detailed sightseeing suggestions along with a schedule for select local events and tours, and it’s not uncommon for guests to return to their rooms and find desserts waiting for them, like mousse or cookies. The atmosphere is intimate and a touch romantic. 

The hotel is on a residential street near other charming houses with similar structural styles and in front of a private canal. There are restaurants, boutiques, and cafes within a short walk, and there is an outdoor market within a 10-minute walk. Dijver, a destination popular for its famous medieval buildings near the canal, is a few minutes further by foot. The international airport in Ostend is less than a 30-minute drive.

Rooms are modern with gray walls and solid, wide-planked oak floors. Stylish bedding and framed black-and-white photos give the space a polished feel. The conveniences of a standard hotel are all here including safety deposit boxes, wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, and stocked minibars. Bathrooms are particularly chic with features like basket weave-inspired walls and rain showerheads; upscale L’Occitane toiletries are provided. Those looking for historic appeal won't find it here (for that, try Hotel Jan Brito or Hotel Heritage), but this will please guests seeking a more contemporary stay.

The owners of Huis Koning go out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay for their guests. On arrival guests will find chilled water waiting for them in their rooms and homemade frangipane. Breakfast is provided in a bright common room and includes homemade breads and cooked eggs. Pastries and coffee are available throughout the day, and desserts are sometimes provided in rooms. There is a lovely terrace with pretty canal views. Note that there is no parking or elevator; if those amenities are needed, consider the Hotel Heritage.
