Bottom Line

The Azeda Boutique Hotel is a popular mid-range hotel located a five-minute walk from the picturesque João Fernandez beach. The boutique hotel offers 18 clean and pleasant guest rooms in three categories and most come with furnished balconies -- though maintenance issues have been reported. The public areas are a bit more stylish with colorful furniture and an arty vibe. A semi-outdoor restaurant overlooks the chic pool and serves a free breakfast buffet, and a la carte lunch and dinner. A small fitness center and steam room are nice bonuses, as are free parking and Wi-Fi.

Azeda Boutique Hotel

Scene

Romantic and elegant boutique hotel

The hotel offers exceptionally designed and executed public areas that mix rustic and contemporary furniture, colorful textiles, and accessories like chicken statues and pillar candles. Warm tropical colors and hand-made candles look homey while eye catching tiled lamps hanging from the vaulted ceiling with huge wooden beams. Glass oil diffusers add a subtle, fragrant scent to the space. Outside, planted shrubbery and palm trees bring splashes of green. Kids are welcome here, but the majority of visitors are international couples who want to combine boutique style lodgings with proximity to the beach.

Location

Five-minute walk to sandy João Fernandees beach

The Azeda Boutique Hotel is located along the main road leading towards picturesque João Fernandes beach, which can be reached within five-minutes of walking. The beach is among the most sought after of the more than 20 beaches at the Armacão dos Búzios Peninsula, as it's sheltered, shallow, and a safe choice also for families with kids. The immediate neighborhood provides restaurants, tourist shops, car rentals, and pharmacies. However, anyone looking for fine dining or night-life should head to downtown Búzios, which can be reached in a five- to 10-minute drive. Búzios offers good shopping and decent art galleries at Rua das Pedras street.

The Galeão International Airport of Rio de Janeiro can normally be reached in three hours. However, guests should be aware of monstrous traffic jams during summer months, the New Year, Carnival, and any long holiday weekend. Cabo Frio city, a 40-minute drive away, offers limited domestic flights and during peak season it receives some charter flights from Argentina and Chile.

Rooms

Bright and cheerful, plus flat-screen TVs and some balconies

The Azeda Boutique Hotel offers rooms in three categories: Standard, Garden, and Deluxe; renovated in 2009. Overall, rooms are spacious and comfortable -- some have vaulted ceilings with wooden beams while others have furnished balconies and either garden or partial/distant ocean views. Decor is less impressive than the public areas, but still favors rustic wooden furniture and bright textiles. Air-conditioning, ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and free Wi-Fi are standard. Retro-red minibars are a cute touch. Vibrant paintings made by local artists hang above the beds. Bathrooms feel a bit small. Each is decorated with white and beige ceramic tiles. Showers, toiletries, and hairdryers are included. Past guests have reported the occasional maintenance problem with hot water or air-conditioning, though it seems staff are quick to respond to problems.
