The Duangtawan Hotel occupies a prominent spot smack in the middle of central Chiang Mai. It's close to the airport, and within easy access of the Night Bazaar. However, this area is also full of noisy traffic and can feel seedy at night, with go-go bars and lots of touts in the area. With 512 rooms, it's one of Chiang Mai's largest hotels. That said, rooms look a bit worn and dim, although they are among the best value for the category in this part of town. The facilities are abundant, ranging from a large outdoor pool to a huge fitness center and spa, but the fitness center is open to the public and can be crowded. There's also an excellent choice of restaurants and bars on-site with cuisine ranging from Chinese to Italian.

Those looking for some privacy and a place to chill out will certainly do better elsewhere, as the Duangtawan Hotel is aimed squarely at the tour group and corporate travel market, and its meeting and conference facilities are among the largest in Chiang Mai. While the 512 rooms here can handle the crowds, the public areas can get pretty packed. Although the hotel attracts large numbers of conference-goers, families won't feel out of place here as there is plenty of room for the kids at the pool.

The hotel is in the center of Chiang Mai, a few minutes' walk from the popular Night Bazaar and close to endless eating, drinking, and shopping options. It's also no more than a 10-minute drive into the historic old city. However, this convenience does come with a downside, as this area gets a lot of noisy traffic and can be seedy at night due to tourist touts and numerous go-go bars.

Worn-looking rooms, 24 in total
Rooms are simple and modern, with light wood floors and slightly darker furniture and a color scheme that relies heavily on tans and browns. All come with safes, minibars, kettles, and bathrooms with separate showers and tubs. The Dynasty Club rooms on the 20 through 23rd floors provide great views along with club lounge benefits, and they're particularly spacious. While the upper floor rooms are larger and more regal, they suffer from poor Wi-Fi connections.
