Bottom Line

The Annex Copenhagen is a budget property on the outer edge of Copenhagen’s city center that’s less stylish and amenity-friendly than even some hostels in the city. The 89 rooms are private and colorful, though they all lack air-conditioning and some have shared bathrooms. Amenities here aren’t very impressive as the cold breakfast and bike rentals both cost a fee, but there are nice public areas, a communal kitchen, and everything is clean. About the best thing going for it is the less than 10-minute walk to places like the train station, lakes, and Tivoli Gardens. Backpackers and youthful travelers might want to consider the stylish Generator Copenhagen as the vibe is upbeat and there’s a great on-site bar for around the same rates.

Oyster Hotel Review

Annex Hostel Copenhagen

Scene

Budget property with modern public spaces and a tourist clientele

For travelers in the market for a budget property, Annex Copenhagen offers private rooms and some stylish public spaces. The lobby is quite modern with a circular front desk lit by blue and green squares. The fun decorative elements don’t stop there, as the elevator features book wallpaper and red bean bag body chairs provide a place to relax. The hallways create a moody vibe with black walls and little lighting, but the public lounges are bright and cozy with leather couches and colorful artwork on the walls. Annex Copenhagen isn’t overly stylish or modern in any sense, but it satisfies many couples and groups of friends looking for a budget property with private rooms in the super expensive city of Copenhagen.

Location

20-minute walk or less to Christianborg Palace, Tivoli, and Stroget

Annex Copenhagen has a pretty good location within walking distance of many of Copenhagen’s main attractions. Tivoli Gardens and the Lakes take eight minutes to reach on foot. The popular shopping area of Stroget is a 19-minute walk away and the Christiansborg Palace is a 20-minute walk from the hotel. Dining options are plentiful on surrounding streets, and there's a train station just a six-minute walk away. It’s about a 20-minute drive to Copenhagen Airport.

Rooms

Colorful rooms with flat-screen TVs and a mix of private and shared bathrooms

The rooms here have an overwhelming bright design in oranges, yellows, greens, and reds, that cover everything from the walls to the beds. Dark striped carpet dark isn’t very impressive, though there are some cool vintage-like lighting fixtures or lamps and cozy bean bags in many rooms. Amenities are limited to flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. There’s no air-conditioning, kettles, or mini-fridges. All bathrooms were renovated in early 2017. Rooms that must use shared bathrooms have sinks with mirrors and hand soap. Rooms with en-suite bathrooms feature shower/tub combos, wall-mounted toiletry dispensers, and hairdryers. Shared bathrooms are equipped with showers.

Features

Lots of public spaces like lounges and a kitchen; and a cold breakfast for a fee

About the only thing Annex Copenhagen provides is making it easy to socialize in plenty of public hangout areas. One lounge features a book exchange and a flat-screen TV, while another has comfy chairs, magazines, and a foosball table. Guests can take the socialization outdoors in the hotel’s patio courtyard. There’s also a communal kitchen with a microwave, four-burner electrical stove top, sink, and mini-fridge for guests to use. A cold breakfast is available, but its pretty basic and may not be worth the price according to past guests. There’s a laundry room and bike rentals, both of which incur charges. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
