The 133-room Ocean Beach Palace Hotel and Suites is a budget, motel-like property with few amenities but a convenient location within walking distance of the beach in Fort Lauderdale. There’s little to keep guests on-site, aside from a small heated outdoor pool, as the property lacks a restaurant, bar, and gym. Rooms are well-equipped with air-conditioning, microwaves, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers, plus some have stoves and hot tubs. Unfortunately, wear and tear is evident throughout, and past guests have complained about maintenance issues. A few casual eateries are within walking distance, but several are within a short drive. Overall, better values can be found in Fort Lauderdale. Hotel Sogo EDSA Harrison is a basic, budget-friendly property located in Pasay City, right off the EDSA. Rooms are plain and bland – some lack windows — and equipped with just basic amenities like small flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are tiny and toiletries are not provided. A simple restaurant is open for all three meals and serves regional as well as international fare, plus room service is available. Beyond this, there’s not much more in terms of features. Overall, it’s an average choice for undiscerning budget travelers looking for cheap hotels in Pasay or those with flights to catch at the nearby airport, but it’s worth shopping around. The nearby Heritage Hotel Manila is a bit more expensive, but offers more features like a pool and fitness center, plus rooms are bigger and have more amenities.
Hotel Sogo Santolan
Hotel Sogo Santolan is 75-room motel-style budget property with hourly rates, located about a half-hour drive from Manila’s center. It’s convenient for drivers looking for a cheap place to spend the night. The property is dated and in need of some renovations, but it’s an adequate choice for undiscerning, transient travelers on a budget. Simple, tired rooms have a slight Japanese flair in terms of decor (there are themes too, like “pirate”) and they’re equipped with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and Wi-Fi (though the latter two can be problematic). The crowd here tends to be on the older side.
