Berkeley Hotel & Day Spa
Andrije Hebranga 116A

The Berkeley Hotel checks all the boxes within its rating category, and its affordability is another plus. The venue stands out among other three-pearl hotels in the area due to its various leisure and sporting boats (skippers included) that can be rented out and taken on private excursions. Apart from the Gruz Harbor ferry terminal, the location isn't convenient for tourists without cars, though nearby public transportation makes the rest of Dubrovnik easily accessible. The room furnishings and bathrooms have been updated, and the free breakfast spread is better than most.

Valamar Collection Dubrovnik President Hotel
Iva Dulcica 142, Babin kuk Complex

A 2014 renovation of the 292-room Valamar Dubrovnik President Hotel has taken this high-end, holiday resort to the next level. With smart and tastefully contemporary interiors throughout and quality facilities, the property easily deserves its luxury-level rating with large pools (both outdoor and indoor) and an excellent spa as particular highlights. Sea-view sunsets can be enjoyed from every stylish, relaxed room, even from the comfort of sunbeds on spacious balconies. It might feel a little isolated, but Dubrovnik's renowned Old Town is still easily accessible by car. Rates are surprisingly low for this caliber and half-board options can provide even better value.

Villa Klaic
Shumetska 9

The eight-room Villa Klaic is a mid-range, charming bed-and-breakfast with private baths and free Wi-Fi. Rooms are pleasant and homey with wood floors and small flat-screen TVs; some also have kitchenettes and furnished balconies. One highlight here is the small outdoor pool with lounge chairs and sea views, plus an outdoor kitchen where guests can order a meal. Free beer, coffee, and juice is offered, and the breakfast room is pretty with potted plants and panoramic views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Stairs lead up to the hotel, and it’s a steep 20-minute walk to the Old Town, which could be an issue for some travelers. If steps aren't a problem, the hotel is a good choice for leisure travelers wanting to stay away from the bustle of the Old Town. Another option could be the Hotel Lero, which offers more modern rooms but isn't as intimate.

Hotel Zagreb
Setaliste kralja Zvonimira 5

Located on the Lapad Peninsula, within walking distance of the eponymous beach, this seasonal three-pearl hotel was originally built as a private residence, and its exterior retains the appearance of a vintage villa. Inside, the style is more contemporary but less appealing: the lobby, for instance, looks rather institutional and the 24 guest rooms -- all outfitted with air-conditioning, digital safes, and flat-screen TVs -- are pleasant but uninspired. Since a buffet breakfast, parking, and property-wide Wi-Fi are all included in the rate, the Zagreb offers a good value. It is, however, short on features. Aside from lovely landscaped grounds and the popular restaurant/bar area that overlooks them, there’s little on-site… not even an elevator. Travelers looking for extras such as a pool, a full-service spa, or business facilities should consider upgrading to Hotel More.

Hotel Uvala
Masarykov Put 5A

The upper-middle-range Uvala -- one of the newer hotels in this part of the Lapad Peninsula -- has a contemporary look and a choice location within walking distance of the beach and promenade. Dubrovnik’s Old Town, a 20-minute bus ride away, exerts its own pull; however, the features here may tempt guests to stay on-site. Standout ones include indoor and outdoor pools, a stylish restaurant/bar where a free breakfast is served, a full-service spa, a fitness center, and meeting spaces. Like many of the common areas, all 51 rooms aim to accentuate the setting by adding spacious balconies (most of which offer at least partial sea views). Their interiors are well-equipped too, with air-conditioning, minibars, flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Aesthetically, though, rooms are bland and fail to hit the bar set by the lobby. Decor-conscious travelers would be better off booking the four-pearl Hotel Lapad.

Karmen Apartments
Bandureva 1

The four-room Karmen Apartments is a value property with an excellent Old Town location and lots of charm. Decor is a true highlight here, with framed maps of Dubrovnik, black-and-white photos, and colorful art covering the walls. Rooms are quiet despite the central location, and are homey with eclectic furnishings such as regional knickknacks, art, and book-lined shelves. The apartment-like rooms have small flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and kitchenettes stocked with cookware and tableware. These apartments are a good pick for guests that don't have a problem navigating stairs (which can be quite steep) and want to be near the action of the Old Town. Those willing to trade the central location for a pool and sea views should consider the also intimate but more upscale (and expensive) Villa Klaic.

Hotel Dubrovnik Palace
Masarykov Put 20

The 308-room Hotel Dubrovnik Palace is a five-pearl cliffside hotel with dramatic sea views. This property offers a range of high-end amenities, from the beautiful outdoor pool to the Finnish sauna in the spa. The sleek lobby to the chic rooms with sea view balconies are utterly contemporary; rooms on higher floors are particularly stunning. There are a handful of dining and drinking options, with the buffet breakfast earning the best reviews from guests. This hotel also offers an indoor pool and hot tub, a fitness center, and an on-site art gallery. The remote Lapad Peninsula location may up the romance, but guests wanting to stay right in the Old Town should consider The Pucic Palace, a luxury boutique hotel with an elegant, Old-World atmosphere.

Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik
Frana Supila 12

Situated on the coast just south of the Old City, Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik is an elegant, historic luxury hotel with beautiful views and a sleek, contemporary aesthetic. The 158 rooms and suites have modern interiors and lots of high-end touches, and many offer balconies with views out over the sea. Standard amenities include bathtubs and separate showers, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Hotel features are geared toward business travelers and vacationers alike, with plenty of meeting space, a swish spa with steam and sauna facilities as well as hot tubs, a fitness center, and multiple dining options. There's also a beach terrace with lounge chairs for sunbathing, in addition to an indoor pool. Overall, there's little to fault with this property, but if you're after something more Old World than modern, consider booking a room at The Pucic Palace instead.

Hotel Komodor
Masarykov Put 3E

Outdated but well-maintained, the mid-range Hotel Komodor is located on the scenic Lapad Peninsula just a few minutes' walk from the beach and close to the restaurant-filled promenade. Its 63 guest rooms occupy three floors, with one wing belonging to an old stone villa. The air-conditioned units have free Wi-Fi and some have balconies with sea views, but there are no mini-fridges, kettles, or safes, and all have tube-style TVs. The real boon for a property at this pearl-level is the outdoor pool and poolside bar. The breakfast buffet is free and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and it has a bar and outdoor patio. The nearby Hotel Splendid is a reasonable alternative for travelers seeking direct private beach access, but it lacks a pool.

Grand Hotel Park
Setaliste Kralja Zvonimira 39

Located on the scenic Lapad Peninsula, the upscale Grand Hotel Park offers 244 rooms spread across a seven-story building and two annexes. All rooms have balconies, some with sea views, and those in the newer annexes house are modern and romantic, in stark contrast to the more dated units in the main building. However, rooms lack coffeemakers and past guests have complained of inadequate storage space. Hotel amenities include a free buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and free parking along with indoor and outdoor pools, a spa with two saunas, a steam bath, a fitness center, and a relaxation room. The hotel also offers two restaurants and two bars, though they are pricey. Those looking for something more intimate and closer to Old Town should consider the 13-room Hotel Kazbek instead.
