Bottom Line

About a 10-minute drive inland from the coast near Paphos, Club St. George is a mid-range apartment hotel with around 400 units in total (though at the time of our visit in 2017, only 180 were furnished inventory). All rooms are designed for self-catering, with fully equipped kitchens and washing machines, but there is an all-inclusive add-on for those who don't want to cook on vacation. However, the food isn't great so self-catering may be the best option. Facilities include lovely indoor and outdoor pools along with a spa, whirlpool, and a simple fitness center. Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby and in a handful of rooms. Travelers wanting to be a bit closer to the shore should instead consider Hadjiantoni Anna Hotel Apartments, which has free Wi-Fi and good food.

Oyster Hotel Review

Club St. George Resort

Scene

Mid-range apartment hotel with a sleek look and gorgeous views over the sea

From the outside, this hotel -- which opened in 2013 -- looks a bit like a an upscale condo development, with apartments spread across rows of three-story blocks of terra-cotta roofed stucco structures that wouldn't look out of place in a Mission-style Southern California gated community. Buildings here are oriented toward the sea, making for great sunset-viewing opportunities. The lobby is pleasant enough -- it's an airy and modern affair with a TV and a mix of cream leather and plush purple sofas plus a few big vases full of artificial flowers. There's also a huge pool area where most guest activity takes place and a largish dining area off to one side that extends from the edge of the pool into a brightly lit indoor area. A lot of the guests here are British and Russian, including some younger couples and groups of friends in town to party, plus a good number of repeat guests. The property -- while fully built -- only has some of the units furnished (they're progressively furnishing apartments as the need arises), which means that it feels a bit deserted, a vibe only exacerbated by its relatively remote location away from shops, restaurants, and beaches.

Location

Inland hilltop location, about a 15-minute drive to the center of Paphos

Club St. George is located on a hilltop about a 10-minute drive inland from the northern outskirts of Paphos. There's a gas station just downhill from the hotel with a tiny shop selling chips and other snacks. Tremithousa village is about a 15-minute walk away and has a few shops and restaurants. The hotel also offers a shuttle to the harbor depending on demand, but it's really a good idea to rent a car if planning to stay here. Central Paphos and the Tomb of the Kings both take around 15 minutes to reach by car. It's a 20-minute drive to Paphos International Airport.

Rooms

Sleekly decorated apartments with full kitchens, big balconies, and uncomfortable beds

Club St. George offers around 400 units, but at the time of our visit in 2017, only 180 of these were furbished and guest-ready. Room types include Studios, One-Bedroom Apartments, Two-Bedroom Apartments, and Villas, all with similar decor and amenities. Units have sleek decor, with either a beige or a dark-gray color palette, polished stone floors, dark-wood finish furniture, and large terraces or balconies with tables and chairs -- many have lovely views over the Mediterranean. Two-Bedroom units add second baths and twin bedded second rooms. Flat-screen TVs come standard, but at the time of our research, only a handful of the apartments had internet access. All units have kitchens with stoves, washing machines, microwaves, kettles, toasters, and all the cookware one could need to make a meal. Villas add dishwashers to their offerings. Bathrooms are simple, with shower/tub combos and no toiletries except for soap. Villas have either two or three bedrooms and all have private swimming pools as well as unobstructed sea views. Beds are notably uncomfortable -- it's easy to feel the springs when lying down.

Features

Lovely outdoor pool deck with splash areas, fitness center, spa, and mediocre buffet-style meals

This hotel's star attraction is its main outdoor swimming pool deck, which features lots of lounge chairs and a huge pool with shallow wading areas for kids and plenty of room to swim. There's also a second indoor heated pool that's much smaller (and quieter). Note that lounge chairs are free, but towels are not (though they can be purchased at the small on-site shop, which also offers snacks, sunscreen, and cold drinks.) There's also a recreation area with foosball and billiards right outside the shop. Other wellness facilities include a simple fitness center with dated cardio and weight machines, a whirlpool hot tub, and a sauna, along with a spa offering massage services and reiki.

Dining here isn't that great, though a lot of guests don't bother opting for the affordable all-inclusive package, choosing instead to taking advantage of in-room self-catering facilities. Meal selection is light and the quality of food -- served buffet style -- leaves a lot to be desired, but it could be of value for those who intend to drink a lot of alcohol. The hotel also offers weddings (they even have their own chapel for the purpose). On-site parking is free and ample. There's free Wi-Fi in the reception area.
