Best Family Hotels in Cyprus

When not snorkeling and swimming in clear blue water, channeling Indiana Jones at stunning archeological sites, or even skiing — it’s nice for families to have a home-base hotel with lots of fun activities for kids. The Mediterranean island of Cyprus has loads of great kid-friendly hotels, but we especially love these nine for their large rooms and many family features, like nurseries, waterslides, and kids’ buffets. Take a look at our picks for the top resorts for families in Cyprus.

Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos

Paphos, Paphos District, Cyprus

The beachfront Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos is an upscale all-inclusive in Paphos, near famous archaeological attractions. For younger guests, the hotel has a kids' club, The Little Monsters, with a nursery room for toddlers under the age of 3 and a separate section for kids ages 3 to 12, complete with a playground and all sorts of activities, including arts and crafts and a daily mini-disco. Older children can hang out in the Teenz Club, which offers virtual reality and video games. The hotel's main pool area has two huge lagoon pools, plus a smaller kids' pool. There's also a Mayan Temple pool with a huge replica of Chichen Itza and an enormous waterslide. The main restaurant offers huge buffets for all three meals, along with a kids' buffet and a good selection of desserts, including ice cream. All 276 rooms have private balconies or terraces, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and 32-inch flat-screen TVs. Family Junior Suites add separate sleeping areas for children, with either single or bunk beds, plus second TVs. The vibe throughout the resort is generally busy, but not hectic, and the property gets a good mix of families with kids and couples (many of whom stay in the dedicated adults-only wing).

Amathus Beach Hotel Limassol

Limassol, Limassol District, Cyprus

The 239-room Amathus Beach Hotel Limassol is a large family-friendly resort with two sections of beachfront. In addition to the calm Mediterranean waters, there are two outdoor pools, one a family pool with a pair of waterslides and a play area for kids. Families can also take advantage of a kids' club with an outdoor playground. All of the 239 rooms on the ocean side have small private balconies, while the limited number of inland-facing rooms opt instead for more square footage. The extra space gained provides room for sitting areas with sofa beds, making them suited to families, though they come at the expense of a view. Of the hotel's many dining options, families most appreciate the casual all-day buffet (where free breakfast is served) and the outdoor ice cream stand.

For families, the hotel offers a year-round "kindergarten," which is really more of a supervised playroom for ages 3 to 8. The hotel's 202 rooms include private balconies or patios, coffee/tea, minibars, shower/tub combos in the bathrooms, and flat-screen TVs with English-language channels. The pretty crescent-shaped beach offers water sports (fee), and a colorful kids' club keeps little ones occupied with computers, games, and shows. Of the four pools, one is a splash pool for kids, and a daily activity program and nightly live entertainment (held in an outdoor theater) is appropriate for all ages.

Sunrise Pearl Hotel & Spa

Protaras, Famagusta District, Cyprus

Conveniently located in the resort town of Protaras, Sunrise Pearl Hotel & Spa is within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and beaches. Appealing to all of its guests, the hotel manages to strike a nice balance between family-oriented activities and adult-only spaces. It runs a kids' club where children can participate in games, activities, and other entertainment, and it has a game room with table tennis, mini-billiards, and video games. On the other hand, there are two adult-only pools for those looking for kid-free leisure. Water sports are available (through a private company) on the adjacent beach, where guests can lounge in the sand or splash in the clear blue water. Even closer to home, Sunrise's pool patio is a bustling, well-designed complex, and the hotel’s animation team plans entertainment and activities throughout the day. The 146 large rooms have king-size bed and either day beds or couches, as well as flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi.

Louis Ledra Beach

Geroskipou, Paphos District, Cyprus

Louis Ledra Beach is a mid-range family resort with optional all-inclusive rates and direct access to the main Paphos promenade and beach. Amenities here are geared toward families. A colorful indoor kids' club (open seasonally), an arcade, a large grassy playground with see-saws and swings, and a splash zone (one of three on-site pools) keep kids busy. Moreover, the hotel grounds are full of activities like ping-pong, pool, giant chess, tennis courts, and beach volleyball. Food is of good quality and there's a special kids' buffet, plus live show cooking. All of the hotel's rooms come with air-conditioning, small flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges with a few cold drinks, and furnished outdoor space with full or partial sea views. In Family Rooms, coordinating baby-blue sofas can be transformed into beds for kids. Wi-Fi is provided for a fee, but access is free in the lobby.

Louis Imperial Beach

Paphos, Paphos District, Cyprus

As the name suggests, this hotel is right on the beach, with only a boardwalk separating it from the shoreline. There's also a main pool that's popular with families, along with a small adjacent splash park, playground, and toddler-friendly wading pool. Animation for kids and adults is provided six days a week and both buffet and a la carte dining is available. Standard Rooms have either two twin beds or one double bed, while Family Rooms add sofa beds. All units come with flat-screen TVs, kettles, mini-fridges (stocked for all-inclusive guests), safes (for a fee), and Wi-Fi (again, for a fee). Every room has a furnished balcony, some with ocean and pool views. Unlike many properties in Paphos, this hotel is open throughout the year, but bed-and-breakfast and half-board options are only offered during the winter low season (around mid-October through April). The rest of the year, all guests have to sign up for all-inclusive rates.

Apollonia Holiday Apartments

Paphos, Paphos District, Cyprus

Apollonia Holiday Apartments is an affordable, family-run complex of 20 apartments in the center of Paphos, just a 10-minute walk from the beach. The town's picturesque fishing harbor and ancient Greco-Roman ruins are within a 20-minute walk. The property's studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments are dated, but they're well-maintained and have extremely well-equipped kitchens with full-size refrigerators, stovetops, ovens, microwaves, electric kettles, toasters, dishes, and even citrus juicers. Rooms also have 32-inch flat-screen TVs, but air-conditioning is only available for a fee. Though the hotel lacks a restaurant or bar, it has a friendly, easygoing vibe that’s ideal for families or couples who want to cook themselves. There are always plenty of lounge chairs at the tranquil pool, as well as a convenient help-yourself snack bar and a shaded children's area filled with toys. However, there is no game room or organized kids' entertainment, meaning youngsters could grow bored during an extended stay.
