Majestic Elegance Punta Cana
Arena Gorda A Macao, Arena Gorda a Macao

While not as flashy as Punta Cana’s newer or larger alternatives, the upscale Majestic Elegance Punta Cana is a solid all-inclusive resort choice for all types of travelers, with a family section and an adults-only Elegance Club area. The list of amenities ticks all the right boxes for a proper oceanfront vacation: a beautiful beach, two massive pools, tons of restaurants and bars, and an elegant spa. Entertainment includes foam parties, and the staff organize games by the pool and beach. All 598 suites are spacious and traditionally decorated, equipped with free Wi-Fi and minibar items, hot tubs, and private (optionally swim-up) terraces. The beach can be overcrowded, and the property is starting to show its age, but it’s still a good value among comparable area all-inclusives. The Majestic Mirage Punta Cana -- the newer neighboring sister property -- offers a more sophisticated, adults-centric vibe and nicer rooms for slightly higher rates.

Ocean Blue & Sand
Arena Gorda

This 708-room upscale resort a 10-minute drive from downtown Bavaro aims to appeal to guests of all ages. The focal points here are the large, music-filled pool area and the mock town center -- not the small strip of beach. The rooms are spacious, but not as stylish as one might expect from this category, and not many have ocean views. There are plenty of dining options and lots of activities for kids and teens, and prices are among Punta Cana's most affordable for an upscale resort. Majestic Colonial Punta Cana has a better beach, so it may be worth comparing rates.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana
Boulevard Turistico del Este Km 28 No 74

The 1,775-room Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana is a massive luxury all-inclusive resort with a huge array of features that will keep families, couples, and groups entertained. There are a whopping 13 swimming pools, 9 restaurants, a nightclub, an 18-hole golf course, 65,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a massive spa and fitness center, and one of the Dominican Republic’s largest casinos. But the Hard Rock isn’t all about size—the swish property also happens to be one of the nicest all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana, with rates that cover tons of amenities and facilities such as 24-hour room service, nightly entertainment, and top-shelf drinks. All of the rooms feature free minibars, hydro tubs, and furnished balconies or terraces.  Another large all-inclusive resort worth checking out is the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana, which is divided between a family-friendly side and adults-only section.

Iberostar Selection Bávaro
Carretera Arena Gorda

The Iberostar Bavaro Suites is slightly higher-end than the Iberostar Dominicana next door, and offers nearly 600 Junior suites (the only room type) spread out in 75 bungalow-style buildings. The Junior Suites are bright and contemporary, with separate seating areas and stocked minibars. A lucky few will have an ocean view, while most should expect garden views and a lot of walking. The renowned beach is the highlight, and there's a large pool adjacent to the sand with a swim-up bar, snack area, and kids section with slides. For food, guests can choose between the main buffet and a range of a la carte restaurants that require a reservation, or use the 24-hour room service. Golf, tennis, late-night bars, and free Wi-Fi are also available.

Iberostar Punta Cana
Carretera Arena Gorda

Located on an excellent stretch of beach, the Iberostar's clean rooms, immaculate grounds, great service, and buzzing activities morning, noon and night make it feel like a well-oiled machine. Sure, it's crowded, the meat's overcooked, and the rooms and gym are showing some wear, but it's still one of Punta Cana's best deals.

Majestic Mirage Punta Cana
Playa Arena Gorda, Arena Gorda

Among Punta Cana’s Mirage three resort compound, the four-pearl Majestic Mirage Punta Cana is the smallest, most intimate, and most adult-centric. All 511 Suites are large and modern; they come with flat-screen TVs, hot tubs, butler service and private balconies (most with ocean views). Upgrades to swim-up pools are available. In addition to a long list of resort amenities -- including a lovely white-sand beach, several all-inclusive restaurants, numerous bars, and a massive lazy river-style pool -- guests can also access the spa, casino, and kids' club available at the two neighboring sister properties. The beach overcrowds easily, but guests aren’t likely to find much else to fuss over. While it lacks the same upscale polish, the adjacent Majestic Colonial Punta Cana offers similar amenities, a family-friendly vibe, and a larger pool for less money.

Iberostar Grand Bavaro
Carretera Arena Gorda

This 274-room, adults-only all-inclusive resort with photogenic Greco-Roman design is part of the Iberostar brand's Grand Collection, and is the most luxurious of four Iberostar options in Punta Cana. Prices are understandably higher, though they're not that much higher than at sister property Bavaro Suites. There's a ton of space for relaxing, especially at one of three pools and an extra wide stretch of beach. The four room types are equipped with spacious balconies, enclosed foyers with large closets, and a hidden delivery area for 24-hour room service. Butlers are available at no extra cost, though they might only prove valuable for restaurant reservations, which are notoriously difficult. After dinner, guests can enjoy a performance in the Milanese-inspired theater, La Scala; for drinks, a three-mast ship serves as a late-night watering hole, though few actually use it.

The Grand Reserve At Paradisus Palma Real
Playa de Bávaro, Paraje de Bavaro

The 288-room Grand Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real is a luxury all-inclusive set on beautiful, sprawling grounds near Bavaro Beach. Its chock full of luxe features – attractive pools with ample canopied daybeds and plush loungers, eight restaurants (plus more accessible at sister hotels) ranging from Asian-fusion to a steakhouse, a state-of-the-art gym and spa, a water park for kids, and a kids’ club. The beach is beautiful, but it requires a 15-minute walk. Stylish and spacious suites have living rooms, dining areas, and private terraces with whirlpool tubs, as well as modern amenities such as smart TVs and Nespresso machines. Swim-out suite options are available too. For even more features, check out the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana, which has a casino, more restaurants and pools, and a golf course, though guests have complained of thin walls in rooms.

Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus
Playa Bayahibe

Located on the D.R.’s softest and calmest stretch of beach, the highly active Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus is a pretty solid family option -- three clean pools, attentive service, and excellent scuba diving (though for a cost). But because the rooms are dated and poorly maintained, and the food is only good (not great), the newly renovated Dreams La Romana is a better option for the same price.
