In Morocco, riads have a reputation for being small and cozy guest houses akin to bed-and-breakfast properties, but with 23 guest rooms and an outdoor pool with a bar, Riad Zahra Mogador is bigger than many. It's also newer, but the building still has plenty of charming elements, like archways, hammered-steel lighting fixtures, a handcrafted fireplace in the restaurant, and a dramatic lobby staircase with a swirling wrought-iron and wood banister. Rooms are simple but bright, with firm mattresses topped with traditional printed linens, and some units have terraces. Zahra Mogador's on-site restaurants serve Moroccan, Asian, and international dishes, and breakfast is included in the rates. Hotel-wide Wi-Fi and on-site parking are both free. The hotel is a short walk from the beach and a short drive from the medina, so ideal for travelers who want to be close to both.

This colorful, artistically decorated budget hotel provides homey, tidy rooms and a relaxed atmosphere for travelers seeking a cheap stay near Tagharte beach (a seven-minute walk from the hotel). The units themselves are bright, basic, and cheery, with striped traditional bedspreads, tile floors, and plenty of light. Free breakfast is served in the indoor courtyard, and there are a TV and computer for guest use. Free cooking classes are offered daily -- a very cool perk -- and the family is known for giving great local tips for travelers. One thing to note: that there have been four reports of bedbugs here over the past eight years. 

Located in the medina, this small, intimate hotel is in the traditional riad style of a Moroccan home. The nine individually decorated rooms are grouped on three floors around a courtyard, meaning they can be narrow. But they're filled with a pleasing, eclectic mix of traditional handicrafts, and include a welcome drink on arrival and free Wi-Fi, and come at reasonable rates year round (they're higher than the typical rates at Zahra and Les Matins Bleus, but still lower than what is commonly found around here). Malaika's free homemade breakfast changes daily, and evening meals are available with advance notice. The hotel also has a roof terrace with lattice-shade structures, loungers, and views of the city.
