Sheraton Denarau Villas
Denarau Island West

The upscale Sheraton Denarau Villas includes 82 two- and three-bedroom units on man-made Denarau island. The resort is conveniently situated between the Westin and the Sheraton Fiji, and families and groups choose this hotel over its neighbors in order to have laundry facilities, living areas, and fully equipped kitchens (though unlike at the Hilton, there are no outdoor grills). The two on-site pools are crowd-free, but guests will have to go next door for use of a spa, fitness center, and tennis courts. The on-site Wet Edge restaurant is a solid choice for lunch or dinner, or those who want to keep food costs low can make use of the nearby supermarket. Wi-Fi and parking are both free. The narrow beach has a rocky barrier, and travelers may prefer the wider beach at the less expensive Hilton Fiji Beach Resort.

The Terraces Apartments
Port Denarau, P O Box PD79

This mid-range time-share property is ideal for travelers looking for the comforts of home and to be fairly close (a 20-minute drive) to Fiji's main airport. Though not on the beach, the cheerful yet quiet property offers 45 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments equipped with laundry facilities and kitchens. There's a relaxed cafe next to an attractive pool, which overlooks an 18-hole golf course. The hotel is an easy walk to Port Denarau for restaurants and nightlife, plus it's convenient for guests who need to connect to ferries departing to outer islands. Families may want to check out apartments at the Wyndham Resort Denarau Island for a beach and kid-friendly activities.

The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa, Fiji
Denarau Island North, Nadi

This four-pearl, 246-room beachfront resort was the first resort on Denarau -- a man-made island that's a 20-minute drive from Nadi airport via causeway. There are two Starwood sister resorts next door, and guests have access to a huge interconnected waterfront area with several pools and dining outlets, an 18-hole golf course, 10 tennis courts, and the largest spa in Fiji -- but there's not much of a beach. Traditionally styled rooms are equipped with the brand's plush bedding and bathrobes, while the newer adult-only wing is more modern (though lacks water views). Service is inconsistent -- sometimes lethargic -- and high prices for mediocre food and Wi-Fi (it's only free for one device) detract from the value. Those hoping to save on food by cooking might prefer the kitchen-equipped rooms at the Radisson Blu. This is one of the lower-priced options on Denarau and best suited for a short stopover.

Tadrai Island Resort
Mana Island Resort, Selena Cove

This luxurious five-villa Tadrai Island Resort (managed by Hilton) has a stunning natural location in the Mamanucas Islands -- 15 miles off of Fiji's mainland. Opened in 2014, the adult-only hotel attracts honeymooners and couples with big budgets who want a quiet, personalized stay. Rates include memorable meals and beverages at the stylish restaurant and bar, where guests will be taken care of by a small but doting staff. Villas are well-equipped with minibars, iPads, and plunge pools, plus have stunning ocean vistas. There are a number of free activities such as kayaking, hiking, fishing, snorkeling, sailing, and island excursions -- or guests can simply chill out on the beach with nary a soul in sight. Families should check out the Nanuku Auberge Resort, which is a similar intimate luxury option.

Mana Island Resort
33 Namoli Street

If interior aesthetics and great food aren’t priorities, the upper-middle-range Mana Island Resort offers lots of family fun in a stunning natural setting. Occupying 150 acres of the 300-acre Mana Island (upscale Tadrai is a neighbor), the resort is situated between two gorgeous beaches, where many guests spend their days sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. Top-notch amenities include two gorgeous pools and a jungle-like spa, but dining at both the a la carte and buffet restaurants is a real letdown. Rooms aren’t luxurious by any stretch of the imagination, but many are spacious and designed with families in mind. The resort’s constant schedule of family-friendly activities, like grass skirt making, guided bush walks, and traditional Fijian dinner shows keep guests coming back to the property year after year. Families looking for something more upscale with similar amenities might prefer Paradise Cove Resort, an all-inclusive property with more expensive nightly rates. Couples and honeymooners might prefer neighboring Tadrai Island Resort, though it too is pricier.

Bilmar Beach Resort
10650 Gulf Boulevard

The Bilmar Beach Resort is a 166-room mid-range hotel located directly on the beach, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico in Treasure Island. The resort features an array of family-friendly activities and is located within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and the boardwalk at historic John’s Pass. Rooms conveniently have kitchenettes, but the kitschy Florida decor in the lobby and rooms could use an update.

Bedarra Beach Inn
Sunset Strip, Korotogo

This 26-room mid-range hotel on Fiji's Coral Coast attracts mostly Australian couples -- many that are repeat guests. The Bedarra Beach Inn is located across the street from a pretty beach and also has an outdoor pool, manicured gardens, well-reviewed restaurant, and bar with live music. Though some decor aspects feel dated, the bright and airy rooms have air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and furnished balconies (some with ocean views). Free snorkeling gear and kayaks are available, and arriving guests receive a welcome drink and a free 10-minute foot massage. Wi-Fi, on the other hand, will cost extra. Families may prefer the more extensive facilities at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, but rates are higher.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa
Maro Road, Natadola Bay

The 266-room InterContinental is one of the biggest and most luxurious resorts on Fiji's main island, with gorgeous ocean views to boot. Tons of amenities include three outdoor pools, a spa, 24-hour fitness center, yoga, kids' club, and an excellent 18-hole golf course. Though the resort receives a lot of families, rooms have romantic balconies with daybeds and stand-alone bathtubs that appeal particularly to couples. Expect to spend a pretty penny on dining options, though those who upgrade to the club level (some of these units also have private plunge pools) are rewarded with breakfast, afternoon tea, and cocktails at sunset. Downsides include fees for Wi-Fi and non-motorized water sports, plus some rooms are showing a bit of wear and tear. The Outrigger is an upscale option with free water sports and lower rates, but rooms aren't as sumptuous.

Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa
Queens Road

This mid-range resort has a spacious and attractive beach setting along Fiji's Coral Coast. The stand-alone bures have garden or ocean views, as well as mini-fridges, and most units have indoor/outdoor bathrooms. Deluxe Rooms feature more modern decor, while others have dated and worn furnishings that are in need of an update. The property is best suited to vacationing families, as guests have access to plenty of activities including a pool and waterslide, non-motorized water sports, dive center, kids' club, pretty spa, and tennis court. There's a buffet for all-inclusive packages, as well as an a la carte restaurant, cafe, and market selling snacks. For a more upscale environment, consider the nearby and similarly priced Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort

Hexagon International Hotel, Villas & Spa
Martintar Street

The Hexagon International Hotel, Villas & Spa is a three-pearl property about 10 minutes from Nadi International Airport. We wouldn’t recommend spending your entire vacation here, but it’s an ideal choice for a quick stopover in Nadi. The 146 rooms are spread across the surprisingly large property, and many overlook one of the hotel’s three outdoor pools. There are multiple room types, ranging from tiny Standard Rooms to spacious Two-Bedroom Apartments with full kitchens. There's a decent restaurant and a fun bar, but unfortunately breakfast isn’t free. Decor throughout is a tad dated, and guests have to purchase pre-paid Wi-Fi cards if they want to access the internet. Travelers looking for a budget-friendly place with more of a resort-like atmosphere might prefer Club Fiji Resort, but it’s farther from the airport.
