1

Bedarra Beach Inn

Sigatoka, Viti Levu

This 26-room mid-range hotel on Fiji's Coral Coast attracts mostly Australian couples -- many that are repeat guests. The Bedarra Beach Inn is located across the street from a pretty beach and also has an outdoor pool, manicured gardens, well-reviewed restaurant, and bar with live music. Though some decor aspects feel dated, the bright and airy rooms have air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and furnished balconies (some with ocean views). Free snorkeling gear, kayaks, and reef shoes are available, and arriving guests receive a welcome drink and a free 10-minute foot massage. Wi-Fi, on the other hand, will cost extra.

2

Naviti Resort

Korolevu, Viti Levu

A popular mid-range choice for families and wedding groups, the 220-room Naviti Resort offers great value with its all-inclusive package, free activities (such as kayaking and snorkeling trips), and free kids' club (plus kids 12 and under eat free). The resort sits on a huge stretch of waterfront; the beach itself is rather narrow, but there is a big outdoor pool with a swim-up bar and hot tub. Pleasant rooms have furnished balconies or patios, tea- and coffee-making facilities, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs, but no Wi-Fi -- Wi-Fi is limited to an hour per day in reception. Other facilities include a spa, fitness center, nine-hole golf course, and two restaurants (one buffet, one a la carte).

3

First Landing Beach Resort & Villas

Lautoka, Viti Levu

This laid-back and somewhat well-worn resort near Vuda Point provides an affordable alternative to Nadi's pricier Denarau Island. Most of the 41 rooms are in plantation-style duplexes (think wood floors and screened-in porches), while larger apartments and villas have kitchens and living rooms. A continental breakfast is included in the rate, and available meal plans can help keep costs in check. There's not much of a beach here, so the medium-size pool gets most of the attention. Kayaks and snorkel gear are free to use. Wi-Fi is free at the main bar, but it can be spotty. For in-room Wi-Fi, guests will have to pay a fee.

4

Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa

Sigatoka, Viti Levu

This mid-range Hideaway has a peaceful setting along the Coral Coast, protected by a barrier to prevent erosion. The white-sand beach doesn't have loungers but guests can swim, snorkel, or use free non-motorized waters sports from the activities center. Guests also have access to an outdoor pool with kids' section and waterslide, a great dive center, a free kids' club, a pretty spa, and a tennis court. There's a buffet for all-inclusive packages, as well as an a la carte eatery and wine cellar, a cafe, and a market for snacks and essentials. The stand-alone bures have garden or ocean views and mini-fridges, and most units have indoor/outdoor bathrooms.

5

Plantation Island Resort

Malolo Lailai Island, Fiji

For families and wedding groups on a mid-range budget, the 165-room Plantation Island Resort provides plenty of activities, though the kid-centric -- and often rowdy -- vibe may put off couples. That being said, the lagoon setting is spectacular and ocean views are extensive. Extensive facilities include three freshwater pools, a kids' club with late hours, a tennis court, mini-golf, and free non-motorized water sports. Guests can purchase meal plans for the buffet with nightly changing themes or two a la carte restaurants, and there's evening entertainment next to the main bar. Spacious rooms have mini-fridges and patios, though older rooms may feel dated and dreary. Note that there's a fee for Wi-Fi.

6

The Terraces Apartments

Denarau Island, Viti Levu

This mid-range time-share property is ideal for travelers looking for the comforts of home and to be fairly close (a 20-minute drive) to Fiji's main airport. Though not on the beach, the cheerful yet quiet property offers 45 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments equipped with laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi, and full kitchens with refrigerators, dishwashers, toasters, coffeemakers, microwaves, and stoves. There's a relaxed cafe next to an attractive pool, which overlooks an 18-hole golf course. The hotel is an easy walk to Port Denarau for restaurants and nightlife, plus it's convenient for guests who need to connect to ferries departing to outer islands.

7

Mango Bay Resort Fiji

Sigatoka, Viti Levu

The two-and-a-half-pearl Mango Bay Resort is a budget-friendly beachfront property tucked into the tropical rainforest without much nearby. Laid-back guests can choose from the 50 rooms that consist of bungalows with thatched roofs, mosquito nets, and private bathrooms, or dorms that have shared bathrooms. Features include the sandy beach; a small outdoor pool; and free kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and snorkeling gear. Kava ceremonies and diving and fishing trips are daily activities, and other excursions can be arranged. The restaurant's menu changes often and a free but basic breakfast is included in room rates. Filtered drinking water and property-wide Wi-Fi are both free.

8

Funky Fish Beach & Surf Resort

Malolo Island, Fiji

The 20-room Funky Fish is a budget property with a 650-foot beachfront on Malolo Island, located just a 20-minute boat ride from renowned surfing at Crowdbreak. Accommodations include charmingly rustic beach bungalows, more spacious air-conditioned rooms, and low-cost dorms for backpackers. There's an all-day restaurant and bar, and a limited buffet breakfast is included in the rate. Guests also have access to snorkeling, a swimming pool, hammocks, games, and nightly entertainment -- just remember to bring the bug spray. Free Wi-Fi is available in the public spaces.

9

Anchorage Beach Resort

Lautoka, Viti Levu

This mid-range 64-room resort is on Fiji's largest island, within a 30-minute drive of the airport. Simple, airy rooms have private terraces, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs; the highest category being the spacious Beachside Spa Villas with outdoor whirlpool tubs. Grounds look disheveled (expect brown patches of grass) and the raised beach is small, but there are two swimming pools, spa treatments, and free use of canoes, snorkel gear, and kayaks. The main restaurant offers free continental breakfast in the mornings, live music at night, and free Wi-Fi throughout the day. Free evening babysitting service is available.

10

Aquarius On The Beach

Nadi, Viti Levu

This budget-friendly hotel has 22 rooms at the end of Wailoaloa Beach, a growing area of Nadi that attracts young backpackers -- though compared to its neighbors, Aquarius tends to attract older travelers. The vibe is laid-back and friendly, and the hotel has a small pool and wide beachfront that enjoys views of the sunset. Basic, somewhat dated rooms come with mini-fridges and walk-in showers, and the highest category Ocean View Rooms have big balconies facing the water. Local and Western fare, plus a free breakfast, is served at the restaurant and bar. The hotel provides free airport pickup, and staff can assist with arranging tours. Wi-Fi if free but not reliable.

11

Beachcomber Island Resort

Beachcomber Island, Fiji

Under an hour's boat ride from Nadi, this budget-friendly party pad -- with private rooms and shared dorms -- sits on a small tropical island surrounded by white-sand beaches. All meals are included in the rate; guests adhere to a strict dining schedule and food is served buffet style. The pool is lackluster, but there's plenty of beach space and activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, and kayaking. Other free activities include beach volleyball, mini-golf, cocktail mixology lessons, and turtle feeding. Partiers can hit up four (yes, four!) happy hours and take part in dancing and DJ sets. Meanwhile, couples and the occasional family can escape to the Ocean Front Rooms or Beach Bungalows -- both are out of earshot of the festivities.

12

Tropic of Capricorn

Nadi, Viti Levu

This budget-friendly hotel sits at the end of Wailoaloa Beach, a growing area of Nadi that attracts young backpackers from all over the world. The Tropic of Capricorn has 16 simple private rooms with mini-fridges and walk-in showers, as well as a handful of dorms. As the hotel is a 15-minute drive from the airport, guests typically stay for a night or two en route to other destinations around Fiji. The vibe is laid-back and friendly, there's a pool in the rear, and pretty sunsets can be viewed along the beach. Rates are slightly higher than at neighboring hostels and the property lacks a restaurant and bar, but the scene is a bit more adult-oriented.

13

Smugglers Cove Beach Resort & Hotel

Nadi, Viti Levu

This Australian-owned hotel is more like a hostel and the undisputed hub of activity along Fiji's Wailoaloa Beach. Opened in 2006, it offers multiple dorms and simple yet pleasant rooms that have Fijian decor, private bathrooms, and in some, balconies. But the rooms are not the draw here -- backpackers, usually in transit, tend to head straight for the beach and its water sports, or the spacious deck with a small pool and sun loungers. Nightly entertainment like DJ music or Polynesian fire shows, along with laundry facilities and a free breakfast, add to its appeal, though food and cocktails at the restaurant Ghost Ship can be hit or miss. There are also free airport pickups and Wi-Fi in common areas.

14

Bounty Island Resort

Bounty Island, Fiji

Affordability and Fijian authenticity go hand-in-hand at the value Bounty Island Resort, located on a 48-acre private island 30 minutes by boat from Port Denarau Marina. The 18 rooms include air-conditioned dormitories and rustic bungalows, with some positioned along the shore for breathtaking views. However, the rooms and public spaces are showing wear and tear. There are just one bar and one buffet restaurant, and meal plans are required since this is the only source of food on the island. Guests have plenty of space to find their own privacy, or they can partake in games and cultural activities with the friendly staff who live on-site. There's a small outdoor pool by the ocean, plus kayaking, snorkeling, and paddleboarding for a fee.

15

Robinson Crusoe Island Resort

Likuri Island, Viti Levu

Robinson Crusoe Island Resort is a beachfront value property ideal for travelers seeking a true (read: rustic) Fijian experience. Located on a private island, the hotel has 16 charming stand-alone units, as well as dorm rooms with shared bathrooms for backpackers. The calm sea is suitable for kids, as are the daily cultural activities -- especially on days when the island receives an influx of day-trippers who partake in a packed schedule crescendoing with a stellar Polynesian show. Robinson Crusoe offers free non-motorized water sports, plus segway, jet ski, and flyboard rentals. Be prepared for dodgy electricity, and come stocked with a case of water incase the faucets are experiencing issues. Also note that there are no TVs and rarely Wi-Fi.
