Best Value Hotels in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter

San Diego’s historical Gaslamp Quarter is located between Fourth and Sixth avenues, and between Broadway to the north and Harbor Drive to the south. Because it’s such a small area, anywhere within its boundaries is prime real estate — and many of the hotel prices here reflect that. These four Gaslamp Quarter hotels have great locations and fair rates.

Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown

Gaslamp Quarter, California, United States

Don't let the chain name fool you -- this 245-room Courtyard by Marriott is decidedly upscale. It is housed in a 1920s bank building, and historical elements have been preserved throughout (particularly in the grand lobby). Rooms are stylish and contemporary, and some have bay views. The location in San Diego's happening Gaslamp Quarter is near some of the city's best nightlife. The lobby restaurant, aptly called The Lobby, serves California cuisine for three meals a day, and there's even a Starbucks on-site. Just note that valet parking is a bit pricey, and the elevators can be slow during busy check-in times. It's a great value for the area -- the nearby San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter is similarly priced, but not nearly as nice.

Residence Inn San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter

Gaslamp Quarter, California, United States

This mid-range property in the Gaslamp Quarter is surprisingly stylish for a Residence Inn, and one of the most family-friendly properties in San Diego, despite its happening location. It's easy to save money on food here -- rooms all have kitchens, there's a barbecue area next to the small pool, and the buffet breakfast is free. There's also plenty of room for families to spread out: the smallest room starts at 400 square feet, and many rooms have sofa beds. All in all, it’s a great value.

San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter

Gaslamp Quarter, California, United States

A sleek lobby, a quality restaurant, a popular rooftop lounge with views of Petco Park, and the street-level Latitude Lounge make this 306-room Marriott in the hip Gaslamp Quarter quite a bit more happening than your average chain hotel. Rooms feel bland and generic, but all come equipped with free bottled water and Starbucks coffee, and concierge-level rooms also get access to a lounge with free continental breakfast, snacks, and beverages.

Ramada by Wyndham Gaslamp Convention Center

Gaslamp Quarter, California, United States

Built in 1913, this mid-range Ramada retains an old-fashioned look with some antique details, including a pair of original elevators, plus original chandeliers and marble stairs. The hotel’s location in the middle of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter is arguably its best feature, and puts it within stumbling distance of many restaurants, bars, and clubs. The hotel also has its own 24-hour restaurant with a comfortably worn mahogany bar. While the common areas and 99 guest rooms are clean and mostly well-maintained, the overall look of this hotel is a bit dated, with some furnishings that seem a few decades old. The tiny gym is also a throwaway, with just two machines. Prices are good for this part of town.
