Rocabella Santorini Hotel & Spa
Eparchiaki Odos Firon - Oias

What differentiates four-pearl Rocabella Deluxe Suites & Spa Santorini from most of the other luxury properties on the island is that it has three swimming pools, a full spa, three bars and one restaurant; most hotels in this price range have just one pool and restaurant, and spas are even more rare. However, the pools (including the one with an infinity edge) are narrow. Views of the Aegean Sea can be admired from beds and balconies in the spacious rooms. Rocabella is located on the picture-perfect Caldera side of the Aegean Sea, off the beaten path between Fira and Oia. Some find it isolating while others appreciate the escape from crowds. If you must be part of the scene in Oia, compare rates at Andronis Luxury Suites.

Absolute Bliss Imerovigli Suites
PO Box 360

The 13-room Absolute Bliss Imerovigli Suites, an upscale, well-maintained property with personal service and competitive prices. Charming rooms and suites have indoor or outdoor hot tubs with sea views, and there's an exclusive villa with a heated pool and an indoor steam room with chromotherapy. The hotel’s outdoor pool and dining terrace ---where romantic dinners can be arranged -- offer gorgeous views. However, there’s no full-service restaurant or spa. For a property with more facilities, consider the Rocabella Deluxe Suites & Spa Santorini.

Krokos Villas
Main Street

Krokos Villas is a 16-room, mid-range property comprising three different parts set among the rambling assortment of properties in the center of Imerovigli village. Rooms can vary a lot, largely dependent on whether or not they've been renovated yet, though all have basic kitchenettes and open to sea-view terraces. While breakfast can be delivered to your room, there's no real restaurant and the lack of a proper pool or spa is also a letdown. Rates, however, do tend to reflect the hotel's shortcomings and are some of the cheaper you'll find in this pricey market. If there's a bit of room in the budget, compare rates with the The Rocabella Deluxe Suites & Spa, which has more features and is sometimes only slightly costlier.

Nefeli Homes
Off Main Road

The three-pearl Nefeli Homes is crowded into Imerovigli village's gorgeous Caldera-facing cliffside. The narrow property has three entrances, 11 rooms, and four floors -- which means lots of steps and not a lot of space. But a lack of privacy is common on this part of the island and the location is walkable to Skaros Rock, restaurants, and Fira. There's just enough space for a beautiful outdoor pool, rooftop garden with Caldera views, and small kitchen that cranks out a continental breakfast every morning (can be included in rates). Most of the rooms are cave-style and have kitchenettes, some feature private outdoor whirlpools, and the gorgeous Nefeli Suite has an enormous grotto-style bathroom. The Heliotopos Hotel is a good alternative with a hot breakfast and fun bar, and is even closer to Skaros Rock.

Prekas Apartments
PO Box 740

Prekas Apartment is one of the best values on the caldera in Imerovigli. Nine cave-style rooms with Aegean Sea and Skaros Rock views cost a fraction of what they do in neighboring villages of Fira (about a 20-minute walk) and Oia (about a 20-minute drive). Imerovigli Village itself is one of the quieter caldera villages, but it has a handful of souvenir shops and Greek restaurants. Though the rooms are spotless and come with kitchens or kitchenettes, they could use a style infusion, or at least some new bedding. Perks include a small outdoor plunge pool, continental breakfast delivered to rooms (for a fee), and a helpful front desk staff. Note that there are lots of stairs to navigate to reach the front desk, pool, and some rooms. As an alternative, the Heliotopos Hotel is more chic and includes a hot and cold breakfast buffet in the rates.

Astra Suites
PO Box 45

For those looking to escape the bustle of certain Santorini locales, the 27-room Astra Suites’ quiet cliff-side location is a well-regarded option. The hotel has remarkable views with rocky caldera cliffs at its sides, the Aegean Sea below, and bright blue skies above. Rooms have large personal terraces and fluffy bedding while outdoor spaces are sleek and modern. The mix of traditional architecture and colorful contemporary decor gives the property an elegant and relaxing vibe. However, considering the high number of stairs, Astra’s not ideal for those with mobility issues.

Aenaon Villas
Imerovigli, Santorini, Main Road between Fira and Oia

This small hotel on the island of Santorini is comprised of seven luxury villas featuring fireplaces, private verandas, and high-end decor details. Elevated atop the less crowded northern curve of the area’s caldera and having replaced its bar and restaurant with butler and room service, Aenaon Villas is set up for upscale couples searching for a private retreat. There are no children under 12 permitted. Guests interested in a less isolated experience should look at neighboring San Antonio Hotel, which is larger and has a more sociable vibe.

Sophia Luxury Suites
Off Epar.Od. Firon-Ias

Perched on the Imerovigli hillside, the four-pearl Sophia Luxury Suites is a good choice for travelers looking for a quieter location to enjoy those caldera views. It's a convenient base to explore from on foot, being steps from the hiking trail to Oia and a 10-minute walk from Skaros Rock lookout. The nine suites have a rustic-chic style and modern amenities including air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi plus outside space with ocean views and in most cases private plunge pools. The indoor cave pools in some of the bathrooms are a nice touch and the kitchen serves breakfast and dinner directly to your suite. Avaton Resort to the north of the village is also worth a look -- it's a bit pricier but its location away from town means it offers a little more privacy.

Pantheon Villas
Eparhiaki odos Fira Oias

The upscale Pantheon Villas offers a combination that's almost unheard of in Santorini: uninterrupted caldera and sunset views, privacy, and sprawling space. The chic property is built off of the pedestrian path that meanders from Fira to Oia, and doesn't see the same press of crowds or traffic you'll find in the neighboring villages. The hotel has one of the largest (and chicest) pools in Santorini. There are 20 beautiful room options; five of them are villas with private pools. All guests get free breakfast and half-board packages are available at the excellent restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. Expect a 30-minute walk to the heart of Imerovigli, the nearest village. For those who want caldera views and to be within a quick walk of restaurants and shops in Imerovigli, check rates at Heliotopos Hotel.

Csky Hotel
3rd Km Road Imerovigli - Oia

The three-and-a-half-pearl CSky Hotel is a secluded property set away from the main villages, but within a 10-minute drive of both Oia and Fira. Its location gives it the benefit of space and privacy, which is unusual on Santorini, though it does lose the charming village surroundings. Its pool and restaurant decks have famous caldera views, as do the spacious suites, which have hot tubs or pools. Unfortunately, the homey and dated style isn't exactly posh. A helipad is an unusual addition, and the hotel's extra mountaintop pool is a perfect hideaway. The space is a real treat on Santorini, but guests looking to be closer to restaurants and attractions could look at Fanari Villas in Oia -- which has a similar traditional style and also offers massage and beauty treatments.
