Khaolak Bayfront Resort Hotel's contemporary Thai style jibes with that of many other local resorts, with lots of dark wood furniture, red and orange accents, and classic terra-cotta roofs. Common areas make use of the beautiful, jungle-like surroundings, with an open-air lobby and spa, and while the property is compact, it doesn't feel closed in. Pathways wind through manicured lawns, lush with tropical plants, to the two pools and to the beach. With special packages for honeymooners, families, and the elderly, this property attracts a range of leisure travelers who prefer the peace and quiet of a slightly more secluded resort. 

The narrow property is situated on a gentle slope that extends to the sea, offering direct access to the southern end of a miles-long stretch of beach, which terminates south of the property at the edge of the National Park. The location is somewhat isolated, which means it doesn't tend to get too crowded here, but it is a bit of a hike into town, about a 15- to 20-minute walk, with more markets and restaurants a quick taxi drive away. Phuket International Airport is a 70-minute drive.

The hotel's accommodations range from simple Standard Rooms to beachfront Bungalows. Decor is simple and homey, with hardwood floors, cream-colored walls, and beige drapes. Upgraded rooms tend to be more stylish, and feature attractive, paneled ceilings and upholstered chairs. All units have a private balcony or terrace, and come equipped with AC, minibars, electric kettles with free coffee and tea, safes, umbrellas, and free Wi-Fi. All rooms have TVs, but some entry-level rooms have old tube-style models. Bathrooms can feel a bit small and dated, especially with the odd trio of colorful tiling found in some, but they're tidy and well-maintained, and have walk-in showers, wide vanities, hairdryers, and toiletries. Upgraded rooms add rainfall showers or jacuzzi tubs. Rooms start at about 350 square feet, and face the pool, gardens, or sea.  

The hotel has impressive amenities for a property of its kind, with dining areas, a spa, and pools -- plus direct access to a long stretch of sandy beach lined with sunbeds. There are two modestly sized outdoor pools, a narrow one at the center of the resort, and another that's more popular, which faces the beach and has a children's pool. The latter is surrounded by a wide wooden deck with lounge chairs, though in high seasons spots may only be snagged by early risers. There's also a pool bar, open from mid-morning until late, that serves drinks and light fare. 

The on-site restaurant offers a buffet breakfast, which often comes included, plus lunch and dinner, although the food gets mixed reviews, and some find it pricey for the area. The hotel also has a small spa with a relaxation lounge, a jacuzzi, a sauna, and two treatment rooms, but there's no on-site fitness center.

Other features include a 24-hour front desk with tour and ticket assistance, room service with limited hours, laundry service, and cribs can be added to guest rooms at no extra charge. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
