Open-air wooden structures and sandy walkways give this small resort a deliberately casual vibe. The thatch-roofed reception area features roughhewn Balinese wood furniture and accents of cement, teak, and plaster. Across a sandy interior road is the gently sloping beach, where another thatch-roofed pavilion filled with picnic tables serves as the restaurant and bar. Local interest comes from old surfboards tucked into ceiling rafters and a lineup of bikes parked outside. The handsome rectangular infinity pool is tucked in a central courtyard, while the more intimate standard pool is surrounded by tropical greenery and flanked on one side by a row of curtained massage areas. Guests range from solo travelers, to families, and couples -- but everyone is here for the laidback vibes. 

The Trawangan is on the southern coast of Gili Trawangan, the largest of three islands off the coast of Lombok. The resort's location a bit away from other hotels means more solitude and a slightly longer walk to the cluster of restaurants and bars about 10 minutes away on foot. Gili Trawangan can be reached by a 15-minute speedboat ride from mainland Lombok, and there are regular flights to Lombok International Airport from Bali, Jakarta, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. Alternatively, there's two-and-a-half hour speedboat service from Bali's Serangan Harbor and 15-minute speedboat rides from mainland Lombok. Guests arriving at Gili Trawangan’s ferry terminal can get a cidomo (horse-drawn carriage) to the resort, or take a 10-minute walk. There are no motorbikes or cars allowed on the island.

Simple, Asian-style rooms with peaked bamboo ceilings and wood floors occupy a two-story building, and some first-floor rooms offer swim-up access from the main pool. Spare furnishings include simple black platform beds with white linens and clean-lined desks and shelves. Standard Rooms feature outdoor toilets, sinks, and showers within a walled and private patio. Deluxe Rooms are slightly larger, with contemporary indoor bathrooms that include freestanding showers and separate water closets.

Two- and Four-Bedroom Villas have spacious living rooms with platform sofas and open-plan kitchens with stone-topped breakfast bars. Sliding doors lead to a private, high-walled freshwater pool. Semi-outdoor bathrooms with vine-covered walls lend an intimate, tropical feel. All rooms are air-conditioned and come with free Wi-Fi, wet bars, and flat-panel TVs.

At the center of the resort grounds is a rectangular infinity-edge pool with a shaded area on one side and a swim-up section for ground floor rooms at the other end. A second, smaller pool surrounded by lush greenery provides more tranquil relaxation away from the guest rooms. It's just a few steps across a sandy road to the beach, which is also where the hotel's restaurant and bar is located. Staff provides beach towels upon request. Guests can enjoy their free breakfast on the beach as well as cocktails and casual fare. Additional amenities include an open-air spa offering massage and other treatments. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Staff can arrange horseback riding, diving, and island tours.
