Best Beach Hotels in Majorca

Sun-and-sea seekers need look no further than Majorca, a beautiful island in the Mediterranean that averages around 300 days of sunshine per year and features nearly 350 miles of coastline. Oyster’s reporters have visited almost 100 Majorca beachfront hotels, and here are the ones they rated as the best of the bunch.

1

Protur Playa Cala Millor Hotel

Cala Millor, Majorca (Mallorca)

This highly polished adult-only property overlooks the beachfront promenade, and the long and picturesque sandy beach of Cala Millor. Almost all of its 242 rooms open to balconies and have sea views (Economy Rooms lack both). The standard half-board rate covers excellent buffet breakfasts and dinners, and there are indoor and outdoor pools (plus whirlpools) and a shaded chill-out zone where guests can connect to the free Wi-Fi from a sea-view hammock. Overall, it's easily one of the best hotels in the area.

2

Melia South Beach

Magaluf, Calvia, Majorca (Mallorca)

ME Mallorca is an upscale beachfront hotel, situated on the classier and less raucous end of Magaluf bay. Formerly Beach House, the property received the full ME makeover in 2014, which transformed it into one of the chicest and hippest places to stay and be seen in the area. The look is similar to that of an Ibiza beach club, with most of the action happening on the seafront terraces, which are lined with crisp white loungers and daybeds (these require a fee) and extend to a beachfront restaurant. Continuous dance music, plus the neighboring (and practically adjoining) Nikki Beach Club, contributes to the party vibe. Most of ME's 252 sleek rooms have spacious terraces, many with views of the undeniably impressive beach. Hotel guests get direct access to that wide sandy beach via a keycard-protected gate. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property and fast enough to stream videos, and it even stretches as far as the beach.

3

Hoposa Bahia Hotel

Port de Pollenca, Majorca (Mallorca)

Hoposa Bahia Hotel is a boutique hotel in a former 19th-century vacation home, right on the peaceful, traffic-free beachfront promenade overlooking Port de Pollensa's bay. Just beyond the promenade is the lovely sandy beach, where lounge chairs shaded by parasols are available for a fee. Half of the 34 guest rooms overlook the picturesque bay and most open to balconies, though expect to pay a premium for the best views. There's not a great deal in the way of facilities at Hoposa beyond the Restaurant Bahia, which has a breakfast room, a semi-covered patio, and a beachside terrace. The unspoiled beach of Formentor, and stunning views from the headland beyond, is less than a 20-minute drive away. Hoposa Bahia has a slightly buzzier vibe and (typically) lower rates than the other two Port de Pollensa properties on this list, Hotel Illa d'Or and Hoposa Uyal Hotel.

4

Hotel Playa Golf

Playa de Palma, Majorca (Mallorca)

Playa Golf is an upscale resort-style hotel with a beachfront setting in the center of Playa de Palma's nightlife district. The hotel manages to minimize the disruption from its location, but road-facing guest rooms are prone to noise. All 222 rooms have outdoor space; most rooms feature sea-view balconies or terraces. The rest of the property features lovely sea views, three swimming pools, and a spacious spa. The free breakfast is also excellent, and a cafe provides a pleasant alfresco beachfront terrace. The long stretch of sandy beach features palapas, loungers, a lifeguard, paddle-boat rentals, and recycling bins.

5

HM Gran Fiesta

Playa de Palma, Majorca (Mallorca)

HM Gran Fiesta holds down a prime position on the bustling seafront promenade that runs the three-mile length of Playa de Palma beach. Just across the promenade, guests will find white plastic loungers and palapas on the sand. Most of HM Gran Fiesta's interiors have been updated with a contemporary and stylish finish, and all 241 rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and balconies or terraces with sea views, albeit most of these are lateral views -- the best rooms have full-frontal vistas and loungers. The decent-sized outdoor pool also has sea views, though don't expect any poolside activities.

Boutique Hotel Calatrava

Palma de Mallorca, Majorca (Mallorca)

This low-key but luxurious boutique hotel is located in the historic center of Palma and across the street from the beach. It's beachfront area has no private facilities, like lounge chairs or umbrellas, but it is very pretty and popular. (For a larger beach, go for Playa Golf or HM Gran Fiesta, both a little to the south.) Some of Hotel Calatrava's chic rooms and suites feature sea views, and all have natural light, exposed wooden beams, and stylish furniture. Guests in rooms without sea views can enjoy a stunning panorama of the water from Calatrava's fifth-floor breakfast terrace -- with its unobstructed views of the bay of Palma and Portixol, it is one of the hotel's most outstanding features. Along with Hotel Nixe Palace (below), Calatrava is the most luxurious hotel listed here.

7

Esplendido Hotel

Soller, Majorca (Mallorca)

Of our 14 favorite Majorca beach hotels, Esplendido Hotel is the only one on the island's northwest coast. The upscale retro boutique has a prime location on Port de Soller's bay-front promenade. There are plenty of bars and restaurants within a short walk of the hotel, and the picturesque bay's lovely sandy beach with loungers and umbrellas is just across the road. Esplendido's 73 rooms and suites have the same vintage vibe as the common areas. The regular guest rooms come in standard, medium, or large, with most opening to spacious rattan-furnished terraces overlooking the garden or bay. Occupying the top floors are the two Atico Suites, featuring private terraces with the best views overlooking both the sea and garden -- meaning sunlight throughout the day.

8

Hotel Illa d’Or

Port de Pollenca, Majorca (Mallorca)

Like Hoposa Bahia (above) and Hoposa Uyal (below), Hotel Illa d'Or is located in the popular resort town of Port de Pollensa, in the northeast of the island. Illa d'Or is situated towards the far northern (and quieter) end of the seafront "Pine Walk" promenade, thus offering a particularly picturesque and peaceful setting, shaded by pine trees and overlooking Pollensa bay's calm and clear waters. The hotel has a narrow sandy beach with solarium and private jetty, where guests can depart on regular boat trips and charters around the island. Illa d'Or's La Terraza restaurant is open for lunch and dinner on an alfresco terrace overlooking the sea.

9

Hoposa Uyal Hotel

Port de Pollenca, Majorca (Mallorca)

Hoposa Uyal Hotel is across the street from the Bay of Pollensa's clear waters and sandy beach. The 116 rooms at this upscale seafront property are housed in a classic 1950s Mediterranean mansion, a newer add-on, and an annex building. They feel modern and bright and all but a few open to balconies -- almost half have sea views. The beach itself has palapa umbrellas, loungers, a lifeguard, and a playground. Set in the quieter end of town, the hotel might feel a little sedate for some; Hoposa Bahia (above) has a slightly buzzier vibe.

10

Hipotels Mediterraneo

Sa Coma, Majorca (Mallorca)

Housed in a large, seven-story white building, Hipotels Mediterraneo is surrounded by lovely, beachfront grounds. Grassy lawns are dotted with palm trees, flower beds, and other greenery, while the attractive pool is encircled by tall palms and surrounded by an immense sundeck neatly lined with umbrella-shaded loungers. The wide sandy beach in front of the hotel is equipped with palapa umbrellas and loungers, and the Sa Coma beachfront location is close to restaurants and bars. An adult-only policy and beachside location attract couples seeking a sunny vacation -- the majority of guests here are German, as well as some Brits and other northern Europeans.

11

Hotel Nixe Palace

Cala Major, Majorca (Mallorca)

Everything about Hotel Nixe Palace exudes elegance and glamour, but most particularly its venerable, elevated location overlooking the beautiful Cala Major. (One caveat here: there 50 stairs between the hotel and the sand, so it is a bit of a walk down to the beach.) The hotel's architecture takes full advantage of its spectacular location: its striking pool and several terraces feature sweeping views of the ocean. Sea rooms have a genuine advantage over the others and are worth the splurge, as front-side rooms have a disappointing view of the busy street.

12

Sol Beach House Mallorca

Palmanova, Calvia, Majorca (Mallorca)

The adult-only and upscale Sol Beach House Mallorca has a prime position overlooking the middle of Palmanova's three sandy beaches. Renovated in 2016, the design has gone distinctly beach house, with a relaxed and friendly ambience to match. The 180 guest rooms are bright, colorful, and spacious, outfitted with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and furnished balconies -- most enjoying views over the sea, though those facing the road can be prone to noise. The outdoor pool gets some afternoon shade, but the hotel's direct access to the supervised beach should offset this issue. At the beach, palapas, loungers, pingpong equipment, surfboards, paddle boards, and floating slides are all available.

13

Be Live Adults Only Marivent

Cala Major, Majorca (Mallorca)

Located next door to Nixe Palace Hotel, this 195-room adult-only hotel has a privileged location on the beautiful, wide beach of Cala Major. In fact, Be Live is so close to the water that modern building codes would have probably required it to be built several hundred meters back. Its position overlooking a sparkling expanse of sea is one of its biggest draws, and yet, it's not as played up as it should be. The hotel's interior -- the lobby, especially -- is minimalist gone wrong. All gray and white, it feels soulless and about as Mediterranean as the interior of a space ship. Other areas are more inspiring. The pool has loungers overlooking the sea and the lobby bar has big wraparound windows with views of the ocean that let in plenty of sun and elicit a bit more cheer. All in all, Be Live is a fine choice for excellent views and easy access to a large sandy beach with palapas, loungers, bathrooms, and water-sports rentals.

14

Hotel Roc Gran Camp de Mar

Camp De Mar, Majorca (Mallorca)

Olimarotel Gran Camp de Mar is a large beachside resort located in a quiet, exclusive enclave overlooking scenic Camp de Mar Bay. The pretty sand beach is secluded, with calm surf and shallow water that make for excellent snorkeling. Palapas and lounge chairs are available here to rent, and there are bathrooms and a beachside bar, for convenience. All rooms all offer spectacular sea coast, mountain, and village views, and the hotel has a deck overlooking the beach, where guests can soak up the Mediterranean sun without getting sand between their toes.
